The Bowling Green State University women's golf team opens its 2010-11 schedule by taking one of its longest road trips of the year. Fortunately, one of the team's veterans is very familiar with the destination.
On Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 13 and 14), the Falcons play in the 54-hole Worldlink North Texas Fall Classic in Denton, Texas. Denton just happens to be the old stomping grounds of one Susy Grunden, a returning Falcon starter and the record-holder for BGSU's all-time best single-season scoring average.
Grunden hails from Krum, Texas and attended high school at Denton Calvary Academy. She will lead a team of five Falcons to the Golf Club at Champions Circle, where the team will play on a par-72, 6,102-yard course.
The tournament format will be two rounds of 18 on Monday for a total of 36 holes, followed by a final round of 18 on Tuesday for a tournament total of 54 holes. Monday's action begins with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. (local time), followed by an 8:00 a.m. start on Tuesday.
Bowling Green will face 12 other teams in the two-day tournament. The field will be led by tournament host North Texas and will include Lamar, Houston Baptist, Oklahoma City, Louisiana-Monroe, Stephen F. Austin, Texas-Pan American, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Sam Houston State, Centenary, McLennan CC and Redlands CC.
Along with Grunden, Coach Stephanie Young's lineup will include both members of this year's freshman class, Bailey Arnold and Kelsey Benson. Joining them will be sophomore Amy Ruthenberg and junior Paula DiFrancesco.
A complete rundown of each day's events will be available shortly after the conclusion of play on both Monday and Tuesday right here at BGSUFalcons.com.
