With the win, the Wolverines improve to 4-0 on the year. The Falcons end the non-conference portion of the schedule with a record of 1-3.
Redshirt freshman Jordan Hopgood scored a pair of touchdowns for the Falcons, twice converting on fourth-and-goal plays from the 1-yard line. Senior Tyrone Pronty had BGSU's other touchdown, scoring on a 71-yard pass from sophomore Aaron Pankratz.
The Wolverines scored on their first three possessions of the game, taking a 21-0 lead with less than 11 minutes gone.
BGSU responded with back-to-back scores, beginning with Hopgood's first TD of the day with 8:53 left in the second quarter. After the Falcons stopped U-M on the next drive, with sophomore Dwayne Woods breaking up a fourth-down pass, BG needed just one play to score.
Pankratz hit Pronty on a screen pass, and the Falcon senior took the ball 71 yards for the score. Bryan Wright, who began his collegiate career at Michigan, added his second PAT of the day for BGSU, and the Falcons trailed by just a touchdown.
But, the Wolverines responded with a 69-yard scoring drive, culminating with Michael Shaw's two-yard run in the final minute of the half. The home team took a 28-14 lead into the intermission.
Michigan scored the first 16 points of the third quarter, before BGSU cut the deficit to 44-21 on Hopgood's second TD late in the period. But, the visitors could get no closer. Michigan salted the game away with three fourth-quarter touchdowns.
The Falcons return home next weekend, beginning the Mid-American Conference portion of the schedule with a Saturday (Oct. 2) contest vs. Buffalo. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Doyt L. Perry Stadium.
FALCON NOTES
* The crowd of 109,933 was the largest ever to see a football game involving BGSU.
* Tyrone Pronty had a career-high 92 receiving yards on just three catches ... the big play was a 71-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Pankratz ... that play was a career long for both Pankratz and Pronty ... that TD also brought the Falcons within seven points, at 21-14, with just over five minutes left in the first half.
* Pronty's prior single-game best was 74 yards receiving, at Boise State in the 2008 season.
* Jordan Hopgood had the first two-touchdown game of his young career ... Hopgood now has three touchdowns this season.
* Bryan Wright, who played at Michigan before coming to BGSU this season, punted five times for a 47.4-yard average, and also was a perfect 3-for-3 on point-after tries.
* Late in the first quarter, the Falcons forced the first turnover of the day, as Jairus Campbell caused a U-M fumble, with Chris Jones making the recovery ... for Campbell, the fumble forced was the first of his career ... Jones' FR was his second as a Falcon.
