Men's Golf Hosts John Piper Intercollegiate This Week
September 26, 2010 | Men's Golf
Tournament To Be Held Monday and Tuesday at Stone Ridge Golf Club
The Bowling Green State University men's golf team hosts a tournament for the only time during the 2010-11 season on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 27-28) when 10 opponents come to town for the 2010 John Piper Intercollegiate.
Held at the par-72, 7,064-yard course at Bowling Green's Stone Ridge Golf Club, the John Piper tournament has been home to some of the Falcons' greatest successes over the last decade.
The team has set school scoring records at the tournament, and a Falcon has won individual medalist honors at the last two editions of the event. However, that athlete (Matt Schneider) finished his career with the Falcons last spring, so a new individual champion will be crowned.
The Falcons also won the team championship at the 2009 John Piper, sharing it with Wisconsin-Green Bay. Bowling Green used a final round 283 to complete a three-round total of 864.
This year's tournament will feature 12 teams from 11 schools. Those teams will play 54 holes over the two days of the tournament. The first two rounds of 18 will be played on Monday, with the final round taking place on Tuesday.
The field includes one Mid-American Conference opponent, Ohio University, as well as several other area schools.
Starting Monday, BGSU will face Butler, Cleveland State, Dayton, Eastern Kentucky, Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne (IPFW), Valparaiso, Youngstown State, Wright State, and two teams from Indianapolis.
A total of 75 players, including 15 individuals and 60 from each of the five-member teams, will compete.
Monday's action begins at 8:00 a.m. with players beginning on the 1st and 10th tees, with 36 holes of continuous play. Tuesday's final round will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
