Akenberger and Bojicic named Honorable Mention Academic All-MAC
January 07, 2011 | Football
The Mid-American Conference office has released its academic All-MAC team, with a pair of Falcons earning recognition by the league's office. Juniors Zach Akenberger and Ben Bojicic were named to the Honorable Mention team.
Akenberger, a Bowling Green, Ohio native, maintains a 3.387 grade-point average while majoring in education. He played in seven games in 2010 before suffering a broken leg in the contest versus Temple. The local product was a major contributor in many special teams areas and served as the team's fullback.
Bojicic, a native of Farmington Hills, Mich., was the Falcons' starting center in nine games. The junior maintains a 3.224 GPA, while majoring in criminal justice. Bojicic was also a member of the Rimington Award Watch List at the start of the 2010 campaign.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
The number of honorees on the Academic All-MAC team is equivalent to the number of first-team selections or 33% of the number of nominees, whichever is greater. The remaining student-athletes have been recognized as Academic Honorable Mention selections.
