The Bowling Green State University football team dropped a 27-15 decision Saturday afternoon to the Kent State Golden Flashes. The Mid-American Conference contest was held inside Dix Stadium in Kent, Ohio.
The Falcons (4-5, 2-3 MAC) totaled 445 yards of total offense, including 400 passing, but had four turnovers and made numerous mistakes on special teams in the conference loss.
In all, the Orange and Brown threw two interceptions, had two fumbles, two kickoffs landed out of bounds and missed a pair of field goals in the game that came down to the final drive. The Falcons also came away with just six points on four redzone opportunities.
BGSU trailed 10-6 late in the third quarter, but muffed a punt that gave the Golden Flashes the ball at the BGSU-15 yardline. Kent State scored two plays later to take a 17-6.
The Falcons answered back with an 80-yard touchdown drive, but failed to convert the two-point conversion with 12:32 remaining in the game.
After a Kent State 21-yard field goal with 8:17 left in the fourth the Falcons' Steve Stein drilled a 25-yard kick to get BGSU to within 20-15 with 5:01 left in the final quarter.
The Falcon defense forced a punt five plays later and gave BGSU the ball at its' own 18 with 1:51 remaining, but could not put together a game-winning drive.
Matt Schilz was 29-of-49 passing for 400 yards and one touchdown. Over half of his yards went to Kamar Jorden, who finished the contest with 12 catches for 203 yards.
