Falcons Third After First Day of TPSC Invitational

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Falcon sophomore Emily Waller set a personal freestyle record on Thursday (Dec. 1) as the Bowling Green State University swimming team found themselves in third place after the first day of the Total Performance Swim Camps Invitational. The meet is being held at the Kenyon Athletic Center in Gambier, Ohio.
Waller was the Falcons' leading swimmer in the 1650-yard freestyle race. Her time (17:10.11) earned fourth place overall. It also ranks as one of the top ten times in BGSU history. Waller finished less than one second behind the two athletes immediately ahead of her.
Megan Bomicino also placed in the top ten, as she finished ninth with a time of 17:28.06.
In the evening's only other event, the Falcons entered three teams into the 800 yard freestyle relay. All three finished in the top half of the field of 24 teams. BGSU joined the University of Pennsylvania as the only two schools to accomplish that.
Emily Bennet, Jen Beatty, Erica Nieminen and Andrea Brown led Bowling Green's top team. The group finished with the fifth-best time (7:40.55) during the event's three eight-team heats.
Vicky Yu, Katie Womack, Allie Reynolds and Sarah Reinink also earned a spot in the top ten after completing the 800 yards in 7:43.78.
The Falcons' third team was comprised of some of BGSU's newest talent. Sophomore Brittany Szekely was joined by freshmen Stephanie Boyle, Laina Reisenfeld and Haley Roberts, and the group placed 12th with a time of 7:51.86.
The TPSC Invitational resumes on Friday at 9:30 a.m. with preliminary heats in several individual events, including the 200 butterfly and 100 breaststroke. The evening portion of Friday's action begins at 5:30 p.m. and includes two more relays and the finals of the events raced during the preliminary round.
