Spartans Snap BGSU's Winning Streak with 7-0 Verdict

Host Michigan State University won at each flight Friday afternoon (Feb. 4), posting a 7-0 victory over the Bowling Green State University tennis team. The non-conference dual match was held at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
With the win, the Spartans improve to 3-1 in dual-match play this season, while the Falcons' record drops to 4-2. The loss snapped a four-match winning streak for the Brown and Orange.
The Spartans captured the doubles point with three wins, including a pair of narrow victories. At the second flight, the BGSU duo of freshmen Nikki Chiricosta and Emily Reuland gave their MSU counterparts a battle before falling by an 8-6 score. In third-flight action, sophomores Katie Grubb and Mary Hill were on the short end of an 8-5 result.
A pair of Falcons battled their MSU foes to a third set in singles play. At the top flight, senior co-captain Christine Chiricosta and Amy Barton split their first two sets by identical 6-2 scores, before Barton eked out a 6-4 win in the third flight.
Sophomore Maddy Eccleston dropped her opening set against MSU's Dana Guentert at flight number five. Eccleston battled back to win the second set in a tiebreaker. Then, Eccleston and Guentert played a third-set tiebreaker to 10 points, with Guentert emerging victorious by a 10-7 result.
BGSU returns to action on Saturday evening (Feb. 5), hosting Cincinnati at the Perrysburg Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
