BGSU faces Miami, Ball State at the PTC
The Bowling Green State University tennis team will play a match in Northwest Ohio for the first time in nearly two months ... in fact, the Falcons of head coach Penny Dean will play two matches, hosting Miami University and Ball State University in a pair of Mid-American Conference duals this weekend ... BGSU will face defending conference champion MU on Friday (April 1), before meeting BSU on Saturday (April 2) ... both matches are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.

THREE NOTES NO SELF-RESPECTING MEDIA MEMBER OR FALCON TENNIS ENTHUSIAST SHOULD BE WITHOUT
• Falcon senior Christine Chiricosta already owns two BGSU career records for wins, and now shares the third ... Chiricosta has 83 singles victories and 167 overall wins, good for first place on both BGSU career lists ... with 84 doubles wins at BG, she has matched that school record, tying Jenny Cheung (1995-98).
• Chiricosta, the lone senior on the BGSU roster in 2010-11, helped the Falcons to the 50th dual-match victory of her career when BG won at Buffalo last weekend (March 25) ... the school record for wins in a four-year span is 55, set by the senior class of 2007-08 (Jenna Nussbaum and Andrea Volle) and matched by the following year's class (Libby Harrison, Kelsey Jakupcin and Stefanie Menoff).
• The Falcons have a 13-2 record in dual matches at the Perrysburg Tennis Center since the facility opened prior to the 2008-09 academic year ... BGSU went a perfect 6-0 in the first year at the PTC, and the Falcons were 5-2 there last year, with the losses coming to UIC and Buffalo ... BG is 2-0 in Perrysburg this season to date, with wins over Cleveland State and Cincinnati.
ABOUT THE FALCONS
BGSU enters the weekend with a dual-match record of 10-4, and the Falcons are 1-1 in MAC play ... last weekend, BG split a pair of road matches, with identical 5-2 results ... the Falcons won at Buffalo on Friday (March 25), before seeing a four-match winning streak come to an end vs. Akron the next day ... BG went 5-2 on the just-completed road swing ... head coach Penny Dean's team has records of 2-0 in home matches, 6-4 in away contests and 2-0 in neutral-site matches to date ... both of the home matches were played at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
Individually, senior co-captain Christine Chiricosta has played all 14 dual matches at the number-one singles flight, and has teamed with sophomore Maddy Eccleston at the top doubles flight ... Chiricosta is 8-6 in dual-match singles play, and has an overall singles mark of 19-8 this year to date.
Sophomore Mary Hill has played at the second singles flight in 10 of the 14 duals ... she is 6-4 in those 10 matches, 9-5 in all dual matches and 18-9 in all singles matches this season ... Hill has played at the fourth flight in the last three duals.
Freshmen Nikki Chiricosta and Emily Reuland have played the bulk of the duals at the third and fourth singles flights, respectively ... Chiricosta is 9-4 at flight number three, and also has a win at the second flight ... she leads the team with an overall singles record of 22-6 this season ... Reuland is 9-5 in dual matches and 18-9 overall ... she has played at the fifth flight in the last five contests, going a perfect 5-0 in that time.
Eccleston, who played at the fifth flight for most of the year, has played at the second flight in the last three duals ... Eccleston has a singles record of 19-8 this year, including a mark of 10-4 in dual-match action.
Junior Jessica Easdale, a co-captain along with Christine Chiricosta, has played at the sixth flight for all but three matches this spring ... Easdale is 6-5 in duals and 12-11 overall ... sophomores Katie Grubb and Jade Johnson have a combined singles record of 12-6 this season to date ... Johnson jumped into the lineup for the YSU match, posting a convincing win at the sixth flight, and also played at the sixth flight against Buffalo and Akron.
In doubles, Christine Chiricosta and Eccleston have played every match at the top flight ... they are 11-3 in duals and 19-7 this year, and enter the Miami dual having won eight-straight matches ... the two freshmen, Nikki Chiricosta and Reuland, are 6-4 at the second flight in dual-match play, but all 10 of those results came in non-conference play ... sophomores Grubb and Johnson are 2-2 in second-flight doubles action, and teamed up to play in each of the two MAC contests last weekend.
Grubb and Hill combined for a 7-3 mark at the third flight, but Hill has teamed with Nikki Chiricosta in third-flight action in the last four matches, and the latter duo has been unbeaten during that time.
Overall this season, the eight players on the BGSU roster have combined for a singles record of 120-57 (67.8%) ... Falcon doubles competitors have combined for a 59-26 mark (69.4%) this year to date.
BGSU finished the 2009-10 season with an overall record of 12-10 and a MAC mark of 2-6 ... BG tied for sixth place in the final regular-season standings, and the Falcons were the seventh seed for the MAC Championships ... the Falcons fell to second-seeded Akron, 4-1, in the league tourney's quarterfinal round.

DOUBLE YOUR PLEASURE ...
The Falcons have recorded at least 10 dual-match victories for the ninth consecutive season ... prior to the current streak, the longest string of double-digit win totals was four-straight years, on two prior occasions (1988-92 and 1996-2000) ... additionally, the Falcons finished the 2009-10 campaign with a winning mark for the sixth-straight season, extending that school record ... that streak breaks the old mark of four consecutive winning seasons (originally set from 1974-75 through 1977-78, and matched from 1996-97 through 1999-2000) ... BG needs two more victories this season to clinch another winning record.
... DOUBLE YOUR FUN
The Falcons have won the doubles point in 11 of this year's first 14 dual matches ... last season, BG picked up the doubles point in 14 of the 22 dual matches, including in five of the eight MAC matches ... over the last three-plus years, BGSU has won the doubles point in 54 of 75 matches.
FIRST POINT IS AN IMPORTANT ONE
The Falcons' result in doubles play has been a harbinger of things to come in dual-match action this year ... in 13 of the first 14 duals, the team that won the doubles point went on to win the match ... BGSU has captured the doubles point in 11 of this season's 14 dual matches, and the Falcons have gone on to win 10 of those matches (all but last weekend's Akron match) ... BG's first three losses – on the road against Louisville, Michigan State and Air Force – each came after the Falcons lost the doubles point.
THE OPPONENTS / THE SERIES
Miami currently has a dual-match record of 11-5 ... the RedHawks are 2-0 in league play, and MU has won 19 consecutive MAC regular-season matches ... last weekend, first-year coach Anca Dumitrescu's club downed Toledo and Eastern Michigan at home ... last year, MU went 18-7 overall and won the MAC's regular-season and tournament titles for the second-straight year.
The Falcons trail Miami, 32-5, in the all-time series between the teams, and the RedHawks have won each of the last three meetings ... last year, MU posted a 5-2 win at home over the Brown and Orange (March 27, 2010) ... in the last meeting in Northwest Ohio, the 'Hawks pulled out a 4-3 victory (April 18, 2009) ... two of BGSU's five series meetings came in the 2006-07 season, with the latter match coming in the quarterfinal round of the MAC Championships.
Ball State enters the weekend with an overall record of 6-10, and the Cardinals are 0-2 in MAC action to date ... first-year head coach Christine Bader's club dropped a pair of home matches last weekend, falling to EMU and UT ... the Cards play at Western Michigan Friday before heading to Perrysburg to face BG Saturday ... BSU finished 8-15 overall and 1-7 in the MAC a year ago.
BGSU trails Ball State, 17-16, in that series, but the Falcons have captured the last four meetings ... last season, the Brown and Orange picked up a 6-1 win in Muncie (March 26, 2010) ... two years ago, in BG's last home match vs. the Cardinals, the Falcons posted a 7-0 victory (April 17, 2009) ... BSU's last win over BG came in March of 2006, and the Cards' last win in Northwest Ohio came the prior season.
