First Day Of MAC Championship Concludes With Falcons In Ninth Place

The first day of the 2011 Mid-American Conference championship tournament is complete, and the Bowling Green State University women's golf team resides in ninth place after 18 holes.
Competing at the Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio, the Falcons finished the day with a composite 341. The team trails Northern Illinois by four strokes and Ohio University by 12.
Senior co-captain Lauren Glew leads the team and is tied for 22nd place after shooting 82 during the first round. Glew's total included ten holes on which she shot par.
Underclassmen Bailey Arnold and Amy Ruthenberg both reside in a tie for 33rd after identical rounds of 85. The two combined for the only three birdies the Falcons earned on the day; Arnold birdied the par-three fifth hole, while Ruthenberg downed two birdies in three holes when she carded them on the 12th and 14th holes.
Marisa Glew and Paula DiFrancesco closed out the Falcons' scoring for the day. Glew posted an 89 during Friday's play, while DiFrancesco carded a 90.
Kent State leads the team competition by seven strokes over Ball State with a composite 305. Their top four scorers are all in the top ten; KSU has won each of the previous 12 MAC women's golf championships.
Eastern Michigan's Sarah Johnson is the individual leader after one round with an even-par 72. She leads KSU's Martina Gavier and Shamira Marshall by three strokes.
The second round of play begins on Saturday (April 23) at 7:40 a.m. (Eastern) with staggered tee times every ten minutes from the first hole. Bowling Green will join Ohio and Northern Illinois in the earliest five groups, which whill begin between 7:40 and 8:20. Paula DiFrancesco tees off first, followed by Marisa Glew, Amy Ruthenberg, and Bailey Arnold. Lauren Glew will be the last Falcon to begin play on Saturday.
