Falcon freshman went 3-0 in BGSU's two weekend matches
Bowling Green State University tennis freshman Emily Reuland has been named to the Mid-American Conference's All-Tournament Team. The announcement was made in conjunction with the 2011 MAC Championships.
Reuland had a 3-0 record, and was leading in her fourth match, in the Falcons' two duals over the weekend. She had a pair of victories in Friday's (April 29) 4-0 win over Toledo in the quarterfinals, and picked up another win in Saturday's (April 30) semifinal-round loss to Miami.
On Friday, Reuland teamed with sophomore Jade Johnson for an 8-3 win at the number-two doubles flight. Reuland then defeated UT's Alexandra Cristello by identical 6-4 scores, providing the clinching point in the Falcons' win.
In the Miami match, the Reuland/Johnson team again posted a lopsided victory, this time by an 8-2 outcome against the RedHawks' Riekie Honiball and Jessica Parr. The Falcons' second-flight doubles team was the first to finish on each of the two days.
In singles action, Reuland led Honiball when the match was abandoned. Reuland won a 6-2 decision in the opening set, then saw Honiball rebound to capture the second set. But, the BG freshman held a 3-1 lead in set three when play was halted.
In her first season at BGSU, Reuland finished with an overall record of 40-21, putting her in the top 20 on the school's single-season wins list. She had a 23-12 singles mark and a 17-9 doubles ledger. Against MAC opponents in dual-match play, Reuland had a singles record of 7-2.
In addition to Reuland, the MAC's All-Tournament Team included MU's Stephanie Danesis and Nimisha Mohan, Akron's Prang Pantusart and Zara Harutyunyan, and Western Michigan's Maria Nivia. Harutyunyan was named the tourney MVP as the Zips downed Miami, 4-3, in Sunday's (May 1) final.
The Falcons of head coach Penny Dean finished the 2010-11 season with an overall record of 15-8, falling just one win shy of matching the school single-season record. BGSU went 5-3 in MAC regular-season play, finishing fourth in the nine-team league. Dean and assistant coach Cindy Yonker had just one senior on the eight-woman roster in '10-11.
