Complete Phil Steele Teams
Alex Bayer, Ben Bojicic, Eugene Cooper, Chris Jones, Kamar Jorden and Dwayne Woods, six members of the Bowling Green State University football team, were honored as members of Phil Steele's Preseason All-MAC Team. Woods earned first-team honors, while Bayer, Cooper, Jones and Jorden made second-team and Bojicic was named to the fourth-team.
Woods, the lone first-team member, earned second-team All-MAC in 2010. He led the conference regular season with 134 tackles, while adding 6.0 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and two interceptions. The first-year starter had at least seven tackles in all 12 games and had a career-best 20 stops versus Buffalo.
Bayer, who made just four starts last season had 22 catches for 298 yards and one touchdown in 2010. This isn't the first time Phil Steele has honored Bayer after earning a spot on his All-Freshman Team (fifth team) last year. Bayer finished the season extremely strong, recording five catches for 77 yards at Temple and added three receptions for 88 yards versus Western Michigan in the season finale.
Eugene “Binky” Cooper earned a spot on Phil Steele's second team as a punt returner. Cooper earned All-MAC second-team honors in 2010 at the same position. The junior from Mt. Vernon, NY averaged 11.5 yards a return and had two returns for touchdowns last season, the first Falcon to even accomplish that feat. Cooper had a 71-yard return versus Toledo and did the same thing at Troy, this time coming from 63 yards out.
Jones is coming off a break-through campaign in 2010, earning third-team All-MAC honors. There was no better breakout game than versus Central Michigan last season where Jones had six tackles, five tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and recovered a fumble in the 17-14 win over CMU. For his efforts, Jones was named the National Defensive Lineman of the Week by several publications.
Jorden, who spent two seasons with Cooper at Hudson Valley Community College, led the conference with 96 receptions, the third-most in school history. The 2010 first-team All-MAC performer added 1,109 yards and four scores in his first season playing for the Orange and Brown. His top performance came versus Tulsa where he set career-bests in catches (14) and yards (168).
Bojicic, who was just recently named to the Rimington Award watch list (given to the nation's top center), battled through several injuries in 2010. The senior-to-be made eight starts in 2010 and has made 30 starts in his career.
