Melissa Bott Named MAC Scholar Athlete Of The Week

Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green senior softball pitcher Melissa Bott has been named the Mid-American Conference's Scholar Athlete of the Week for her performances in the pitching circle last week. Bott went 1-1 with a 0.95 ERA in 22.0 innings.
In six games against IPFW, Miami, and Ball State, Bott pitched four times, throwing a complete game without allowing an earned run in a loss to Miami. The next day, she entered a game against Ball State in the bottom of the third with Bowling Green trailing the MAC leader 5-0. She proceeded to pitch the next 9.2 innings, allowing one earned run, as the Falcons battled back to tie and eventually win the game on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 12th. She scattered 11 Ball State hits, forcing the Cardinals to line into three double plays in the game.
Along with Bott, Eastern Michigan baseball player Zack Leonard and Kent State golfer Mackenzie Hughes shared the Male Scholar Athlete of the Week honor. The award is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The nominees must be sophomores or older and the winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
