Head Coach Stephanie Young Previews 2011-12 Women's Golf Season

During the 2010-11 season, the Bowling Green State University women's golf team broke several team and individual records and posted one of the program's best-ever season scoring averages. Now, with younger team members assuming leadership roles following the loss of co-captains Lauren and Marisa Glew, the Falcons seek to set even better scoring standards and improved championship performance.
Amy Ruthenberg, a junior, serves as team captain for the 2011-12 season. Ruthenberg played in all 22 of BGSU's rounds last season and improved her per-round average by two strokes after scoring better than 80 in seven rounds.
Ruthenberg is joined by sophomore Bailey Arnold. Arnold completed last season with three straight top-20 finishes, posted BGSU's second-lowest round ever (70), and completed one of the ten best seasons in program history in terms of scoring average.
Also returning to the team are Paula DiFrancesco, Kelsey Benson and Jen Blanchard. DiFrancesco will be looked upon to provide steadying leadership and experience as the team's only senior. Benson played extensively during her first season as a Falcon and earned a top-three finish in Arizona on her way to a season average of 83. She, along with Blanchard, provide a strong complement that allows head coach Stephanie Young to vary the team lineup.
Incoming freshmen Patricia Holt and Shelby Wilson are expected to contribute during their first season and enter the program following a summer in which they each posted strong results at multiple amateur tournaments.
This group of seven athletes will take on an ambitious schedule of 12 events, which includes trips to North Carolina and Nevada in the fall and South Carolina next spring. The team's annual home event, the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational, takes place in mid-April as part of a three-week, four-tournament gauntlet.
BGSU Athletic Communications recently sat down with Coach Young to discuss the team and the upcoming season. That extended video is below.
