September 15, 2011 | Women's Golf
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- On Thursday afternoon (Sept. 15), the Mid-American Conference named Bowling Green State University sophomore Bailey Arnold as Co-Golfer of the Week after Arnold earned medalist honors at the 2011 Redbird Invitational last Sunday. This is the first time Arnold has won the award.
Arnold earned her first tournament championship as a Falcon by shooting a personal-record 222 (76-74-72). She finished the 54 holes in Normal, Ill. tied for first with Toledo's Piyathida Chaiyapan. Arnold defeated Chaiyapan in a playoff to win the event.
Arnold's total of 222 ranks third in Bowling Green history, and she now has four consecutive top-20 finishes. Her career average through 23 rounds is now 79.13, which would rank second in program history (the program holds a minimum of 30 rounds to qualify for the career average record).
The Falcons finished fifth overall at the Redbird Invitational; it is their highest finish in a tournament since April 2010. The team returns to action on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 19-20) in Waynesville, N.C. at the 2011 Great Smokies Intercollegiate. At this event in 2010, Arnold carded her shot a career-low 70 in the first round.
