In addition to the Falcons and the host Broncos, the tourney field also includes Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois and Toledo. Play begins Friday (Sept. 30) at 1:00 p.m., with second-day action set to begin Saturday (Oct. 1) at 9:00 a.m.
Matches are scheduled to be held at Sorensen Courts on the WMU campus. In the event of inclement weather, the invite will be moved indoors to the West Hills Athletic Club.
The Fall MAC Invite will be BGSU's second tournament of the young season. The Falcons got the 2011-12 campaign started on a successful note, winning a total of five flight championships at the BGSU Invitational (Sept. 16-17). Sophomore Emily Reuland won titles in both singles and doubles, while senior Jessica Easdale, juniors Maddy Eccleston and Katie Grubb and sophomore Nikki Chiricosta each won one flight championship.
BGSU competitors combined to post a 27-6 record in that tourney, going an aggregate 18-3 in singles and 9-3 in doubles. The three doubles teams that were comprised of two BG players went 7-2 on the weekend.
Following the trip to Kalamazoo, the Falcons will have two more fall tournaments remaining, plus the ITA Midwest Regional. BGSU will compete in Toledo's Rocket Invitational on Oct. 14-15, and the Falcons will end the fall schedule with a trip to East Lansing, Mich., for Michigan State's Green and White Invite on Nov. 4-6. In between those two invites, selected members of the BG squad will head to Columbus for the ITA regional event, which will run from Oct. 20-25.
