Waller Wins Three Events as Falcons Fall at Buffalo, 146-123

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Emily Waller and Vicky Yu combined to win five events, but the Bowling Green State University swimming team could not complete a comeback attempt as the Falcons lost at Buffalo on Saturday (Jan. 21). The team's 146-123 defeat was Bowling Green's first dual meet of January.

Waller began her day with a career-best swim in the 1000 yard freestyle. Waller completed the race in 10:29.78 and outpaced Buffalo's Emma Miller by six seconds. Megan Bomicino finished the event in third place (10:42.76).

Later in the meet, Waller competed in the 500 freestyle. She wrapped up her second win of the day in 5:06.82, as she again defeated Miller. Bomicino posted a solid time of 5:14.97 and placed third overall.

Waller's final win of the day took place in the 400 individual medley. She earned the victory by covering the distance in 4:38.53. Vicky Yu took second place, and her time (4:38.91) was just 0.38 behind Waller's.

Yu earned top honor's in BGSU's two other individual event victories on Saturday. She earned a two-second victory over teammate Alexa Harris in the 100 butterfly by finishing in 0:59.37. In the 200 yard version, Yu posted a time of 2:05.66 and defeated Buffalo's Dani Adank by nearly three seconds.

The Falcons also won one of the meet's two relays. Emily Bennet, Alexis Kain, Brittany Szekely and Sarah Reinink combined to win the 200 freestyle relay with a composite mark of 1:37.43.

Bowling Green returns home this week for it's final two dual meets of the 2011-12 season. On Friday (Jan. 27) at 5:00 p.m., the Falcons host Youngstown State. BGSU hosts Miami and celebrates Senior Day at 1:00 p.m. on the following afternoon.
