BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - In a homecoming celebration to remember, Bowling Green decimated Rhode Island, rolling past the Rams to score seven touchdowns in front of a home crowd of over 15,000 at Doyt Perry Stadium on Saturday.
Booboo Gates set the tone for the Falcons, returning a punt for 80 yards and a touchdown early in the first quarter. Sophomore running back Anthon Samuel rushed for 127 yards and three scores and quarterback Matt Schilz was 20-of-27, throwing for 281 yards and two touchdowns.
The weekend's homecoming activities saw the return of Falcon alumni to celebrate the victory. On the field, 1972 Olympic gold medalist Dave Wottle was honored, along with members of the 1962 MAC Championship swim team.
Homecoming king and queen were named at halftime, while a surprise marriage proposal on the sideline delighted fans.
With another win under their belt, the Falcons return to Mid-American Conference play this week, traveling to face Akron on Saturday, Oct. 6.
