November 15, 2012 | Softball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Bowling Green State University softball team once again ranked with the best in the country academically, placing 10th in the nation in the 2012 National Fastpitch Association Top 10 All-Academic Team Rankings. The NFCA Academic Awards program honors both collegiate and high school teams for their submitted GPAs from the 2011-2012 academic year. The Falcons were the only MAC school to be placed on the top 10 list for the third year in the row, joining Robert Morris University and Tennessee Technological University as the only schools in the country to rank in the top 10 over the past three seasons.
"I am extremely proud of our student-athletes and their continued commitment to excellence both on and off the field," said head coach Shannon Salsburg. "To be a top- ten team is amazing, to be a top ten team for three years in a row shows the value our ladies place on the outstanding education they receive here at BG."
The Falcons earned a 3.533 GPA over the 2011-12 season, placing them in the top ten along with fellow MAC schools Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Kent State. Robert Morris took the top spot for the second time in the past three years, recording a 3.609 collective GPA.

*Update*
Thousands of student-athletes representing almost 600 different academic institutions have been tabbed as 2012 NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes, the Association announced on Thursday.
The award is bestowed upon any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2011-12 academic year. The honor marks the second component of the Association's academic award program. Back in late October the squads with the highest GPAs in each membership category were recognized as 2012 NFCA Top Ten All-Academic Teams.
The membership category with the most participating institutions this year proved to be Division I with 140, while Division III was second by boasting 134 teams and high school ranked third with 123.
