Falcons Host West Virginia Saturday Night
November 02, 2012 | Men's Soccer
BGSU, WVU both looking to qualify for MAC Tournament

Saturday's match will be Senior Night for the Falcons, as three members of the program will be recognized prior to the match. That group includes Sean Hastings, tri-captain Zach Lemke and Chris McLean. The Senior Night ceremonies are expected to begin at approximately 6:45 p.m.
The Falcons and Mountaineers are among three teams battling for the remaining two available spots in the MAC Tournament, as the top-four teams in the final standings will qualify for the league tourney. The University of Akron has clinched the regular-season title, and Northern Illinois University clinched a tournament berth with a 1-0 win at the University at Buffalo Friday night (Nov. 2). UB's loss to NIU eliminated the Bulls from tourney contention.
Heading into Saturday's action, the MAC standings are as follows, with overall record, MAC record and total points...
1. Akron (14-1-2) 6-0-0 18
2. Northern Illinois (6-9-3) 4-2-1 13
3. Bowling Green (8-7-3) 3-2-1 10
West Virginia (8-5-2) 3-2-1 10
Western Michigan (11-5-2) 3-2-1 10
6. Buffalo (5-11-1) 3-4-0 9
7. Hartwick (4-10-2) 1-5-0 3
8. Florida Atlantic (2-12-1) 0-6-0 0
In addition to Buffalo, Hartwick and Florida Atlantic have been eliminated from tournament contention. Teams earn three points per MAC win, and one point for a tie.
This weekend's matches are as follows...
Friday, Nov. 2
Northern Illinois 1, at Buffalo 0
Saturday, Nov. 3
West Virginia at Bowling Green, 7:00
Western Michigan at Akron, 7:30
Sunday, Nov. 4
Hartwick at Florida Atlantic, 4:00
Sunday's match does not affect the tournament possibilities, so the tournament field will be determined following Saturday's matches. If you don't have the time or interest to read through all of the nine possible scenarios, here are a few of the highlights:
* BGSU clinches a tournament berth with a win or a tie against WVU;
* Even if BGSU loses to WVU, the Falcons clinch a tournament berth if WMU loses at Akron;
* Seven of the nine scenarios result in BGSU making the tournament;
* The only way BGSU does NOT make the tournament is if the Falcons lose to WVU AND Western Michigan beats or ties Akron.
Here are each of the nine possible outcomes on Saturday night, along with the W-L-T records of each of the four teams if such a scenario occurred, and BGSU's resulting tournament seed. Keep in mind that this is one SIDs interpretation, and there is the possibility that he made a mistake or two in the compilation of these scenarios. Without further ado, here we go...
