Hutchison, Plaszewski to join BGSU tennis program
“We are very excited to welcome Harley and Brittany to the Falcon family,” said Dean. “These two Illinois natives come from a highly-competitive area and work with top-notch professionals. They should be able to hit the ground running for BGSU tennis next fall.”
Hutchison, a native of Joliet, Ill., is currently a senior at Joliet Catholic Academy under coach Mark Streitz. She finished her senior season with a 26-6 singles record for the Angels en route to all-state first-team honors. Hutchison finished in the top-32 in singles in the state tournament as a senior, winning five matches. She won a league (East Suburban Catholic Schools Conference) title in doubles in 2012. Hutchison was an all-state honorable-mention selection as a sophomore before sitting out her junior season.
Hutchison was ranked 11th in the state of Illinois, 33rd in the Great Lakes region and 211th nationally by TennisRecruiting.net. The daughter of Duffy and Leslie Hutchison, she plans to major in pre-dentistry at BGSU.
“Harley was just named to the Illinois all-state team, capping a great high-school career,” said Dean. “She brings an amazing doubles game to the court.”
Plaszewski, a native of St. Charles, Ill., is a senior at St. Charles North High School. She had an overall singles record of 63-4 in two years of high-school tennis, going 30-2 at the top singles flight as a freshman, and posting a 33-2 singles mark in her junior year under coach Eve Tubman. She won conference titles in each season, and captured a sectional championship as a junior after advancing to the finals as a freshman. Plaszewski did not play for her high-school team in either her sophomore or senior years.
Plaszewski was ranked 15th in Illinois, 39th in the Great Lakes region and 236th in the nation by TennisRecruiting.net. The daughter of Rey and Nadine Plaszewski, she plans to major in computer science at BGSU.
“Brittany is a great competitor who will be a welcome addition to our team,” said Dean. “Brittany may appear small, but she will bring a mighty big game to BG, and has a spirit that won't quit.
“Both Harley and Brittany excel in the classroom as well, which will continue the BGSU tennis tradition of academic success.”
The 2012-13 Falcon tennis team completed the fall portion of the schedule in early November, and BGSU is now idle from competition until mid-January. There are four seniors – Maddy Eccleston, Katie Grubb, Mary Hill and Jade Johnson – on the eight-woman squad.
