Sophomore Jasmine Matthews scored a career-high 16 points, pacing three double-digit scorers, in the win. Matthews tied her career standard with four three-pointers, all in the first half.
Matthews was named to the Lady Rebel Round-Up All-Tournament Team.
Seniors Danielle Havel and Chrissy Steffen joined Matthews in double digits, scoring 14 and 11 points, respectively. Havel's total was a career high. Additionally, she was one of three players to grab eight rebounds as the Falcons held a 41-35 advantage on the boards.
Havel also had a game-high four assists, as the Falcons had 19 assists on 23 baskets as a team.
Redshirt junior Alexis Rogers and true junior Jill Stein each pulled down eight rebounds in the game, with Rogers adding seven points and three assists. Junior Jillian Halfhill had nine points, six boards and three assists on the day.
The Falcons spotted the Lady Rebels a 4-0 lead, and BG trailed by an 8-5 score when a Matthews three-pointer from the left corner began an 8-0 run that gave the Falcons the lead for good. Rogers made two free throws during that run, and Matthews followed with a second triple, a trailing three from a Halfhill pass, for a 13-8 BG advantage.
Rmanii Haynes stopped that BGSU run with a steal and layup, but Havel hit a layup off of a nice drive and dish from Rogers. Then, Steffen knocked down a long-range shot, and Halfhill converted a driving layup for a 20-10 BGSU lead.
Junior Katrina Salinas assisted on back-to-back triples, first finding freshman Miriam Justinger outside the arc, then spotting a wide-open Matthews in the left corner. The latter shot gave the Falcons a 26-16 advantage.
Matthews hit her fourth three-pointer of the half, and BG's lead grew to 13 points after steals by Rogers and Halfhill, respectively. The latter theft resulted in Steffen's transition layup that gave the Brown and Orange a 32-19 advantage with 4:22 left in the half.
Alana Cesarz, who led the Lady Rebels with 17 points, made back-to-back layups, and a putback by Kelli Thompson cut BG's lead to seven.
Halfhill knocked down a triple try with two minutes to go in the half, but Cesarz scored four-straight points to cut BGSU's lead to 35-29 at the intermission.
The Falcons had 11 assists on 11 first-half buckets.
The second half saw UNLV score the first four points to get within two, and the hosts had several chances to tie the contest. But, the Lady Rebels missed a shot, then turned the ball over on the next possession.
Then, Rogers put back her own missed shot, Steffen drained a rainbow three and Matthews stole the ball from Hayes and sailed in for a layup. When Havel hit an 'and-one' layup and converted the resulting free throw, BGSU's lead was 12 points, at 45-33.
That lead grew to a game-high 15 when Rogers hit a straightaway trey at the 13:27 mark.
Thompson knocked down a three to snap a 13-0 run by the Falcons, and the home team slowly rallied. But, the Brown and Orange hit enough shots to maintain the lead. Stein hit a jumper in the paint off of a Havel pass midway through the period, and Steffen knocked down a three-pointer from dead center with seven minutes left.
The Lady Rebels got as close as six points, 57-51, when Thompson made a layup, then split a pair of free throws with 3:31 remaining. But, Matthews knocked down a jumper, then fed Havel for a triple and an 11-point lead with two-and-a-half minutes on the clock.
Steffen got into position to take a charge from Cesarz, giving the ball back to BG. Then, Stein hit a jumper at the shot-clock buzzer, giving the Falcons a 64-51 lead with a minute left, and a Danielle Miller three-pointer closed the game's scoring.
In addition to the 17 points from Cesarz, the Lady Rebels got 13 points from Thompson and 10 from Rejane Verin.
The Falcons shot 39.0 percent for the game, including a 12-for-27 effort (44.4%) in the second period. BG held UNLV to a 36.8% success rate on the afternoon.
The Brown and Orange went 12-of-31 from long distance and 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. UNLV was 4-of-14 from beyond the arc and 8-of-12 from the stripe.
Villanova won the championship game of the Lady Rebel Round-Up. After beating the Falcons by 11 points in Saturday's first round, the Wildcats topped Montana, 74-49, in the title game.
BGSU returns home for the next three games, beginning with a Wednesday (Nov. 28) contest vs. Temple. That game will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center.
