Bowling Green, Ohio – The 2012-13 BGSU track and field season gets underway Friday as the Falcons travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. to compete in the Eagle Holiday Meet. Field events begin at 4 p.m. and running events are expected to start at 6 p.m. The meet will take place at EMU's Bowen Fieldhouse.
“With Eastern Michigan hosting the MAC Indoor Championships in February, this is our only chance to get comfortable with the facility,” BGSU second year head coach Lou Snelling said.
Along with the Eastern Michigan and Bowling Green women's teams, Central Michigan, Oakland and Toledo will also compete at the event.
Under Snelling, the 2012-13 BGSU track and field team boasts 20 freshmen and redshirt freshmen on the 40-person roster. Felicia Jefferson, Brea Tinney and Allison Weimer are the lone seniors on the squad.
“This is a great opportunity for our sprints, hurdles, jumps and throws group to see how they've progressed after focusing mainly on conditioning this fall,” Snelling said. “Hopefully, we will build on some of the success we saw at our intrasquad meet last week.”
For Friday's event, the team is expected to have 20 student-athletes in competition with 14 being either freshmen or sophomores. Following the meet, the Falcons will have more than a month off before hosting the BGSU Opener Jan. 12.
