BGSU Trails Akron 3-2 With One Match In Doubt
DADE CITY, Fla. -- The Bowling Green State University men's golf team will enter the final day of competition at the inaugural Mid-American Conference Match Play Tournament with one hole to play in their second round match with the Akron Zips.
The hole in question is the 18th and final one in the match between Charlie Olson and Akron's Ryan Mason. If Olson wins the hole, the Falcons still have a chance to advance to the winners' match of the consolation bracket. If not, BGSU must play for seventh place. The Falcons will face either Ohio or Toledo in the final round.
Akron currently leads the match with BGSU, 3-2. Bowling Green's two points were courtesy of Wes Gates, who defeated Harry Whittle 4-and-2, and Chris Melvin, who dominated Miguel Meyer 8-and-7.
Akron's three points came in closer matches. Parker Hewit lost a 1-up heartbreaker to Cameron Simmons, while freshman Joe Cooper lost on the 17th hole to Tim Lew, 3-and-1. Drew Preston was defeated 3-and-2 by Scott Landreth.
Olson and Mason enter their final hole all-square. If Olson wins, BGSU will even the match with Akron at three points apiece. The first tiebreaker is most combined holes won by a team during the match.
Bowling Green's entry to the consolation bracket came after a 6-0 loss to Eastern Michigan in their first round match. Akron became BGSU's opponent after losing to Miami, 4-2.

Their opponents will be determined by the winner of the Ball State-Northern Illinois match, which is tied 1-1. BSU currently leads three of the four individual matches yet to be completed.
