The Bowling Green State University softball team started the year off strong in Auburn, Alabama, going 2-1 in the season opening weekend. The Falcons thumped Wright State 13-1 in the first game of the season, earning their first opening game victory since 2009. While Bowling Green did lose to host school Auburn 10-2, the Falcons responded with a 6-0 victory over Alabama State to close out the tournament.

Paige Berger, Bowling Green, Jr., IF, Rootstown, Ohio / Rootstown
Junior Paige Berger picked up right where she left off last year, leading the Falcons in batting average (.636) and hits (7) over the opening weekend of 2012. Berger (Rootstown, Ohio) went 7-for-11 in three games for Bowling Green, including a three-run home run against Wright State, and a double against Auburn. Berger's opening day home run gives her 24 for her career, the third most in Bowling Green history. Berger's RBI total (4) and slugging percentage (1.00) are tied for the team lead in the early part of the season. Berger also collected a steal, and is currently on a three-game hitting streak.

Paris Imholz, Bowling Green, Fr., P, Antioch, Calif. / Antioch
Freshman Paris Imholz started her college career off on the right foot, collecting wins over Wright State and Alabama State in her first two starts over the opening weekend for Bowling Green. Imholz (Antioch, Calif) pitched a total of 14 innings in three games, helping the Falcons earn their first opening game win since 2009. Imholz allowed just two earned runs over the weekend, and collected six strikeouts. Imholz dominated in her second win of the season against Alabama State, throwing a one-hit shut out against the Hornets.
