NOTE OF THE DAY
• On Tuesday (April 28), Alyvia Roth allowed no runs and two hits through five innings of work against Oakland, before allowing two runs against the Golden Grizzlies in the sixth.
• Friday saw Roth take a two-hitter into the sixth inning vs. the RedHawks, before leaving after Miami scored a run in the sixth.
• In those two outings, covering 10 1/3 total innings, Roth had an ERA of 2.72 and an opponent batting average of just .194.
• She has lowered her season ERA by nearly an entire run in those two outings.
BGSU-MIAMI – HOW IT HAPPENED
• The RedHawks took the lead when Bailey Manos led off the bottom of the first inning with a homer. Falcon starter Alyvia Roth responded by retiring the next three batters.
• Ashley Chevalier led off the second inning with a sharp single through the left side of the Miami infield, but she was erased on a ground ball up the middle that was fielded by MU shortstop Danitza Hernandez, who stepped on second and threw to first for a double play.
• Katy Olive was hit by a pitch to begin the MU second, and she promptly stole second base. But, Ella Carter's liner was grabbed by second baseman Hannah Hunt, who flipped the ball to shortstop Addie Martin to easily double Olive off second. Roth issued a pair of walks, but got Erin Pinter to hit a popup that the BG pitcher caught to end the inning.
• Cameron Kaufman led off the third with a base hit, and advanced to second on a ground ball back to the circle. But, the junior was stranded there.
• For the third consecutive inning, the Falcons got a leadoff single, as Hannah Simko hit the first pitch of the fourth inning back through the circle and into center field. A pair of ground balls each enabled Simko to move up, before Hunt drew a two-out walk to put runners at the corners. And, Martin also worked MU starter Presley Hosick for a walk to load the bases. Kaufman followed with an RBI single, but left fielder Olive threw to the plate to prevent the second run from scoring. The Falcons challenged the call at the plate, but after a review, it was upheld.
• Carter was hit by a pitch with one out in the RedHawk fourth, but she was stranded at second when the inning came to a close.
• Hanna Massaro reached on a one-out throwing error in the fifth, and advanced to second when the throw went into the BGSU dugout. Peyton Steffes walked, and Simko's grounder put the runners at second and third. But, Hosick got a called third strike to end the threat.
• Roth worked a quick fifth frame, needing just seven pitches to retire the side. Shortstop Martin made a nifty fielding play in the hole, throwing to first in time to retire Mia Estrello for the third out.
• Hernandez singled to begin the Miami sixth, and advanced to second on an outfield error. She took third on a sac bunt and scored on a double by Olive.
• Madison Wendel entered the circle and got both pinch-hitter Kari Krueger and Evey Dieudonne to ground out to Martin at short.
• A strikeout, a liner to short and a ground ball to third enabled Hosick and the RedHawks to close out the win.
UP NEXT
• The Falcons and RedHawks return to Miami Softball Stadium for a Saturday (May 2) doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 1:00 p.m.
• Saturday's twinbill marks the final games of the 2026 season for the Orange and Brown.
