BGSU sophomore earns weekly conference honor for second time
Bowling Green State University tennis standout Nikki Chiricosta has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 15). Chiricosta, a sophomore, earns the honor for the second time in her Falcon career, and the second time in the last four weeks.

FALCONS HOST LOUISVILLE SATURDAY
Chiricosta, a native of Avon Lake, Ohio (Avon Lake H.S.), was 2-0 as the Falcons just missed upsetting a Big Ten Conference team on the road last weekend. The sophomore was victorious in both singles and doubles in BGSU's lone match of the week, a 4-3 loss at Michigan State on Friday (Feb. 10).
Chiricosta teamed with junior Mary Hill for an 8-5 win over the Spartans' Chernova/Lingl team at the second doubles flight. It marked that duo's second win over an MSU team in as many tries this season. Then, in singles play, Chiricosta posted a straight-sets victory over the Spartans' Nicole Herzog at the top flight, winning by scores of 6-4 and 6-0.
On the year, Chiricosta has a singles record of 13-5 to date, and she is now 41-14 in her career, for a winning percentage of 74.5%. In doubles play, Chiricosta is 9-4 with Hill this season and has an overall doubles mark of 13-6. She and Hill have a career doubles record of 26-9 when competing together. Chiricosta has a doubles record of 38-16 (70.4%) and an combined overall record of 79-30 (72.5%) in her BGSU career to date.
Chiricosta also won MAC P-O-W honors on Jan. 26, after helping the Brown and Orange to a win at Duquesne in the team's dual-match opener. She and the Falcons host Louisville on Saturday (Feb. 18), with first serve set for 5:00 p.m. at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
