Falcons Defeat Buffalo, 3-1

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Bowling Green State University softball team defeated Buffalo Saturday afternoon, defeating the Bulls 3-1 on the road.
Junior Hannah Fulk went 1-for-3 in the game, recording a double and an RBI. Junior Andrea Arney went 1-for-4, hitting her team best ninth home run of the season. Freshman Jamie Kertes picked up the win, recording four strikeouts while allowing just one earned run in 4.2 innings. Freshman Paris Imholz recorded the save, allowing just one hit in the final 2.2 innings of play.
Bowling Green crossed the plate first, scoring two runs on two hits in the top of the third inning Fulk walked to start the inning, before being moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from senior Rachel Proehl. Fulk stole third, before being brought home on another sacrifice hit from junior Paige Berger. Arney capped off the inning with a two-out solo home run, stretching the Falcon lead to 2-0.
The Bulls responded in the top of the fifth, scoring one run on three hits to cut the Bowling Green lead to 2-1.
The Falcons took the two-run lead back in the following inning, crossing the plate on one hit in the top of the sixth. After a walk to sophomore Erika Stratton, Fulk came to the plate, and belted her seventh double of the season. Fulk's hit brought home Stratton, putting the score at 3-1 in favor of the Falcons. The Bulls were unable to rally, giving Bowling Green their fifth MAC victory of the season.
"Once again the team did a great job of getting on the scoreboard early, said head coach Shannon Salsburg. "Andrea continues to have big hits for us and we played solid defense today. I am proud of our entire team as everyone played a key role in today's victory."
Fulk is now tied with Berger for the team lead in doubles (7), with the next closest Falcon (Katie Yoho) has recorded four doubles.
Bowling Green (20-14, 5-2) is back in action tomorrow in an encore game against Buffalo. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
