Falcons post a 6-1 win Saturday in Muncie
The Bowling Green State University tennis team swept the doubles point, then won five singles matches in straight sets for a 6-1 win over Ball State University Saturday afternoon (April 7). The Mid-American Conference dual match was held at Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
With the win, BGSU improves to 7-7 on the season, and the Falcons are now 3-2 in MAC action. The Cardinals drop to 5-13 and 0-6, respectively.
After losing a 5-2 decision at league-leading Miami on Friday, in a match that was much closer than the final score indicated, the Falcons left no doubt about the outcome on Saturday. BGSU took an early lead, and the Falcons never took their foot off the gas.
In doubles play, the Brown and Orange won a pair of matches by lopsided 8-1 scores. Sophomores Nikki Chiricosta and Emily Reuland lost only one game to Courtney Wild and Ashlyn Rang at the top flight, while juniors Mary Hill and Jade Johnson won eight of nine games against Dena Boulieris and Lauren Pickrel at flight number three.
The match at the number-two doubles flight was more closely contested, but the result was the same: a BGSU win. Juniors Maddy Eccleston and Katie Grubb picked up an 8-5 victory over Sarah Hebble and Paola Rodriguez in that match.
In singles action, Hebble downed Grubb at the fifth flight, but that was the only point the Cardinals would get. The other five matches all saw BGSU competitors post wins in straight sets. In fact, in 10 total sets in those five matches, Falcon players lost a total of just 15 games.

Chiricosta lost only three total games in a sweep of Wild at the number-one flight, while classmate Reuland moved up to the second flight and downed Kristel Sanders by identical 6-2 scores.
Eccleston did not allow her opponent, Kylee Johnson, to win even one game, posting a 'double bagel' in their third-flight match. At the fourth flight, Hill dropped two games in the first set against Rang, then blanked her Cardinal opponent, 6-0, in the second set to close out the win.
The Falcons' lone senior, Jessica Easdale, picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Boulieris at the sixth flight.
The Falcons of head coach Penny Dean and assistant Cindy Yonker return home for the next two matches, beginning with a Tuesday afternoon (April 10) contest vs. Valparaiso University. That match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Keefe Courts.
