BGSU makes quick work of the Crusaders at the PTC
The Bowling Green State University tennis team made quick work of Valparaiso University Tuesday afternoon (April 10), posting a 7-0 victory. The non-conference match was held at the Perrysburg Tennis Center.
With the win, BGSU improves to 8-7 on the season. The Crusaders drop to 4-13.

In doubles play, the Falcons lost a total of just four games while winning 32 - eight at each of the three flights. BG fared even better in singles play, winning 72 games while losing only three.
BGSU won all three doubles matches in roughly a half-hour. Sophomores Nikki Chiricosta and Emily Reuland were the first to finish, closing out an 8-0 victory over VU's team of Megan Barthels and Kristin Zakiewicz at the top flight.
At the second flight, juniors Maddy Eccleston and Katie Grubb downed Stephanie York and Kaitlyn Hamel by an 8-3 score. BGSU's other two juniors, Mary Hill and Jade Johnson, completed the sweep with an 8-1 win at flight number three, defeating Brittany O'Reilly and Michele Fredlake.
In singles play, no fewer than four of the six Falcon competitors pitched shutouts. All six players won a 6-0 opening set, and four of those BGSU players went on to win their second set by an identical 6-0 score.
That group included Chiricosta, a winner over Barthels at the top flight, and Reuland, who downed Hamel at flight number two. Hill blanked Zakiewicz at the fifth flight, while senior Jessica Easdale did not lose a game in her sixth-flight match against O'Reilly.
Grubb lost one game in her fourth-flight contest against Fredlake, but that match was actually the first to finish. Grubb, like each of her teammates, won all six games in her opening set. The junior then dropped the first game of the second set to Fredlake, but reeled off wins in each of the next six games for the victory.
Hill's match was the next to finish, with Eccleston and Reuland wrapping up their matches shortly thereafter, and Chiricosta closing out her shutout win just after Reuland's match was done. Eccleston lost two games in her second set against York, but cruised to victory at the third flight.
When Easdale won her 12th-straight game of the day, the Falcons had the shutout win. Easdale's final point concluded at 2:29 p.m., less than 90 minutes after doubles play had begun.
Head coach Penny Dean's two sophomores, Chiricosta and Reuland, each were a perfect 20-0 in games on Tuesday, winning their doubles match by shutout before posting their respective 6-0, 6-0 singles wins. Hill lost only one total game on the day.
The Falcons return to Mid-American Conference play this weekend, concluding a two-match homestand with a Friday (April 13) match vs. Western Michigan University. That contest is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Keefe Courts.
