Softball Completes Sweep Of Buffalo With 8-4 Win

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Bowling Green State University softball team completed the sweep of Buffalo Sunday afternoon, doubling up the Bulls 8-4.

Senior Melissa West led the way offensively for Bowling Green, going 2-for-2 with three RBI. Freshman Paris Imholz picked up the win, allowing three earned runs and five hits in 4.0 innings. Freshman Jamie Kertes recorded the save, holding the Bulls scoreless in the final three frames.

The Falcons came out swinging in the first inning, crossing home plate four times on four hits. Bowling Green loaded the bases, before junior Andrea Arney came to the plate and hit into a fielder's choice. A Buffalo error on the play allowed a Falcon run to score, leaving the bases loaded. After another fielder's choice that resulted in an out at the plate, freshman Shelby Fink singled in the second Falcon run of the inning. Another Buffalo fielding error resulted in a third Falcon run, before West singled home the fourth and final run of the inning.

The Bulls answered back in the bottom of the second, on a two-run homer from Sammi Gallardo, cutting the Falcon lead to 4-2. Buffalo added two more runs over the next two innings, tying the contest 4-4.

Bowling Green responded in the fifth inning, scoring a run on two hits. Arney doubled to left field to start the frame, eventually stealing third base. Sophomore Katie Yoho then doubled to right field, bringing home the fifth Falcon run of the day.

The Falcons added three more runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by a two RBI single from West, securing the Falcons 8-4 victory.

“I am proud of the way the team finished the weekend, said head coach Shannon Salsburg. “Buffalo battled us the whole game and we responded as a collective group.”

Bowling Green (21-14, 6-2 MAC) is back in action this Wednesday, in an afternoon doubleheader against Detroit-Mercy. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
