Story No. 10 From 2011-12: Oglesby Sets NCAA Record With 26 Straight Made Field Goals
June 13, 2012 | General, Men's Basketball
Throughout the summer, the Bowling Green Athletics Department will be counting down the top 10 stories of the 2011-12 school year, as voted on by members of the Athletics Department administration and the Athletics Communications Department. We will release the list one at a time throughout the summer, until the No. 1 moment of 2011-12 is revealed on Wednesday, Aug. 1 -- the day before BGSU football camp opens.
Torian Oglesby will go down as one of the most prolific dunkers in BGSU men's basketball history. He also entered the record books with a perfect December that carried into the New Year. Oglesby made all 16 of his field goal attempts over a stretch of six games in December and then went 10-for-10 against Texas San Antonio on Jan. 1. By making 26 consecutive field goals, he broke an NCAA record that had stood for more than 30 years.
The streak started when he made his only field goal attempt at Western Kentucky and then went 5-for-5 at home against Malone. He followed that up with just one attempt at Valparaiso and extended his streak to 11 in a row by making four shots at Michigan State. He was 5-for-5 at Florida International but did not attempt a shot at Duquesne before the calendar turned to January. Entering the game at Texas San Antonio with 16 consecutive made field goals, Oglesby was 10-for-10 from the field and finished with 20 points and 13 rebounds. The 26 consecutive made field goal attempts broke Ray Voelkel's record of 25 straight made over a nine game stretch for American University in 1978.
