Jones and Woods Named to Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List

Chris Jones and Dwayne Woods, two members of the Bowling Green State University football team, was named to the Rotary Lombardi Watch List this afternoon. The award is given to the nation's top college lineman or linebacker each year.
Jones was one of the most dominant defensive linemen in the conference last season, en route to earning First-Team All-MAC honors. The now senior, finished 2011 with 47 tackles, 14.0 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. His sack total led the Mid-American Conference and was tied for fourth in tackles for loss. Jones opened the year with two sacks, a forced fumble and a safety in a 32-15 win at Idaho. The Brownsburg, Ind., native added six tackles and three sacks in a 13-10 win at Temple, earning MAC East Defensive Player of the Week on both occasions.
Woods, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, has been a tackling machine over the past two years. In 2011 he led the Falcons with 111 tackles and in 2010 was sixth in the country with 134 stops. The senior has 269 career tackles, 100 tackles shy of cracking into the top-10 in BGSU history. To go along with his 111 tackles, Woods added 14.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and an interception in 2011 alone. He had at least 10 tackles in six games, and recorded a tackle for loss in 10 of 12 contests his junior season. Woods had 12 tackles versus Wyoming to earn MAC East Defensive Player of the Week honors last season, an award he won twice in 2010.

The candidates earned a place on the Official Watch List by: earning All-American honors last season; being named last season to their respective all-conference first team as determined by the conference's head coaches; being projected to be an All-American or first team all-conference player for the coming season; or by nomination approved by the nominations committee.
While the Watch List highlights those players who have already received national recognition, any Division IA player who meets the above requirements is eligible for consideration from the Rotary Lombardi Award Selection Committee. The committee is comprised of more than 500 members, including all past winners and finalists, all Division IA head coaches, and a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.
