MAC Media Day Is Underway!
July 24, 2012 | Football
8:50 AM -- MAC Media Day is underway from Ford Field in Detroit. BGSUFalcons.com will bring you video, photography, and other behind-the-scenes looks all day. Keep looking here for the latest!
BGSU football has been picked to finish second in the MAC East. A full release can be viewed by CLICKING HERE!
9:05 AM -- The MAC announced a four-year contract extension with both Ford Field as host and Marathon as the title sponsor for the Marathon MAC Football Championship Game through the 2015 season.
This year's Marathon MAC Football Championship Game will be Friday, Nov. 30 at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN2. The game is the second-longest running college football conference championship game in the nation, and Ford Field is the second-longest consecutive venue outside of the SEC's title game (Georgia Dome, Atlanta).
The MAC's complete release regarding the Marathon MAC Football Championship Game can be found HERE.
9:15 AM -- Don't forget, in addition to this blog and ESPN3.com, you can follow the MAC Media Day fun on Twitter. @BGAthletics is one source, of course, but you can also follow @jknavel, @DaveMeyerBG, @Mike Cihon and @Scott Swegan, as the BGSU athletic communications staff is in full force here in Detroit!
9:37 AM -- One of the great tragedies of this, and every, MAC Football Media Day is that the coffee is taken away far too soon. The oldest and curmudgeonliest (if that's a word) member of the BGSU athletic communications staff likes to enjoy multiple cups of coffee while he blogs. But, enough about that.
In case you're wondering how the media day works, it works as follows. The East Division coaches and players meet with members of the electronic media during the first half of the morning, from approximately 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., in the Rooftop Suite of Ford Field. During that time, the West Division players and coaches are in the Ford Field Press Box area meeting with members of the print media. Then, at 10:30, the East Division contingent moves to the print media area, while the West Division folks head over to the electronic media side.
The players and coaches also have a number of other commitments on Tuesday morning. During the electronic-media portion of the morning, each school's representatives appear on ESPN3 to talk with Michael Reghi and Doug Graber. The coaches and select players also meet with SportsTime Ohio and XOS Digital to film segments that will be used during various games and programs throughout the season.
9:59 AM -- From the 'For What It's Worth' Department ... the MAC compiled a list of all the conference players named on the various preseason watch lists, and BGSU leads the way with six mentions. Brian Schmiedebusch is on the Ray Guy Award List (best college punter), Alex Bayer is up for the John Mackey Award (outstanding tight end), Dwayne Woods is on both the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (best defensive player) and Rotary Lombardi Trophy (best down lineman) lists, Chris Jones joins Woods on the Rotary Lombardi Trophy list, and Anthon Samuel is up for the Doak Walker Award (top running back).
Buffalo, Ohio and Western Michigan each had five players on the various preseason watch lists, while Kent State had four.
10:18 AM -- We've finished interviews with Matt Schilz, Chris Jones, and coach Dave Clawson. Fans can view the Schilz and Jones interviews below. The Clawson video will be coming in just a few more minutes.
10:24 AM -- The video interview with Dave Clawson is now live via the embedded link below.
11:32 AM -- It's been a long day of interviews for the players and coach, so we had a bit of fun letting the guys get behind the camera and ask some questions. Below is an interview of Matt Schilz interviewing Chris Jones and shortly we'll have another video up with the tables flipped.
