Four Falcons Named to NGCA Academic All-American Team

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -- The National Golf Coaches Association has announced the recipients of the group's 2012 All-American Scholar award. Four members of the Bowling Green State University women's golf team, Kelsey Benson, Patricia Holt, Amy Ruthenberg and Shelby Wilson earned the honor.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative grade-point average is 3.50.
Benson, maintains a perfect GPA of 4.0 while majoring in psychology. She averaged 84.58 through 12 rounds during the 2011-12 season, including a 253 (83-84-86) at the MAC Championships.
Holt recorded a 3.91 GPA while majoring in sport management in her first year with the Falcon golf team. The freshman competed in every round for the Orange and Brown, finishing the year with an 82.59 scoring average. She shot a season-low 155 (78-77) at the Wolf Pack Classic and finished 13th at the Zippy Invitational with a 161 (81-80).
Ruthenberg, BGSU's team captain, maintains a 3.91 GPA while majoring in biology. In 20 rounds of action she carded an 80.85 season average, a career-best for the East Lansing, Mich., native. Ruthenberg finished 21st at both the Zippy Invitational with a 164 (87-77) and Cleveland State Invite with a 163 (84-79).
Wilson is a nursing major that recorded a 3.88 grade-point average in her first year with the Falcons. She also led the team with a 78.70 scoring average, the fourth lowest in BGSU history. She finished 11th at the Redbird Invite, carding a 229 (72-77-80) and finished seventh at the EKU Colonel Classic with the same 229 (79-71-79). Wilson finished a career-best fourth at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational with a 155 (76-79).
