Falcon Swimming Previews 2012-13 Schedule

Bowling Green State University head swimming coach Petra Martin took a moment to preview the upcoming season for the Falcons, whose roster features 14 new faces this year.
A highlight of the schedule will be traveling to Austin, Texas to compete at the U.S. Short Course Nationals, one of the most prestigious events on the USA swimming calendar. The Falcons will take part in the meet for the first time in 2012.
"We are excited that we can give our athletes the opportunity to race the best in the country and keep broadening our team's horizons and stepping up to USA swimming elite level," Martin said. "We have a very young team this year and experiences such as the national meet will help them see things from a bigger perspective and bring an even better understanding of what needs to be done every day."
The Falcons play host to several opponents at Cooper Pool this year, including Michigan State on Jan. 19, along with Buffalo. The regular season opener also takes place at home, with the Falcons welcoming Ashland and Wayne State on Oct. 26.
On the road, the Falcons face Mid-American Conference rivals Miami, Ball State, Eastern Michigan and Akron, as well as Youngstown State. In November, the team will travel to swim at the TYR Invitational hosted by Northwestern.
The MAC Championships are scheduled to run from Feb. 28-March 2 at Buffalo, where the Falcons will look to improve their standing in the conference after finishing in eighth place last season.
"The main focus of the season will be on the championship meets in February and March but we will have some great opportunities for fast swimming in the middle of the season as well," Martin said. "We're excited and ready to get to work and have a great year."
The Falcon swimmers will participate in three exhibition meets to prepare for the season, including the Jean Campbell Alumni Swim Meet on Sept. 29 and the Tom Stubbs Relays on Oct. 12, both at Cooper Pool.
