RESULTS
The Bowling Green State University men's golf team, behind a first-year head coach and senior golfer, carded a 36-hole score of 589 to sit in 14th place at the Marshall Invitational.
The Falcons, with a lineup that featured a pair of freshman, showed their inexperience in round one, finishing with a 302, but improved by 15 shots in the second round, carding a 287. Their second round score was tied for third among the 15-team field.
One player that showed no nerves or inexperience was senior Wes Gates. Gates came into the tournament having played in 101 consecutive rounds in his BGSU career, and used that experience to fire a 73 in round one and a 3-under, 69, in the second round. Gates is currently tied for 15th among the 88-player field.
Improving between the two rounds was the theme on Monday for BGSU. Senior Charlie Olson improved by one shot, opening with a 73, followed by a 72 in round two. Through 36-holes Olson is tied for 25th.
Chris Melvin improved by four shots (77-73--150) and Holden Pahr shaved six shots off from his two rounds (79-73--152). Melvin is currently tied for 59th, while Pahr is tied for 72nd.
Freshman Zac Brammer also competed for the Orange and Brown, firing a pair of 80's and sits in 87th place.
All five Falcons will return to action Tuesday morning.
