Two-Time Defending Champs Host John Piper

The Bowling Green State University men's golf team will host the 12th annual John Piper Intercollegiate, beginning on Monday. The 54-hole event will span two days (Sept. 17-18) on the Stonerige Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio. Both days will be shotgun starts, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Ashland, Cleveland State, Evansville, Green Bay, Mount Union, Oakland, Valparaiso, Wright State and Youngstown State will join the Falcons in the field.
BGSU is the two-time defending champion of the event after carding a 54-hole score of 892 (305-293-294) en route the victory last season and won a rain-shortened 2010 John Piper Intercollegiate with a 36-hole score of 580 (291-289).
Entering Monday's action the Falcons will once again be led by senior Wes Gates. Gates, not only is coming off a third-place finish at the Marshall Invitational, but also has a strong history in the John Piper, finishing 10th as a freshman in 2009, sixth in 2010 and fourth last season.
Fellow classmate, Charlie Olson, finished in a tie for ninth at last year's John Piper, carding a score of 222 (77-73-71).
Competing alongside the two seniors will be Chris Melvin, Holden Pahr and Torey Brummett.
Zac Brammer, Joe Cooper and Griffin Smith will compete as individuals.
