Juniors Emily Reuland and Nikki Chiricosta captured crowns at the first and second singles flights, respectively, and that duo also combined to win the championship at the top doubles flight. Freshman Katie Brozovich and senior co-captain Mary Hill teamed up to take the title at the fourth doubles flight.
On the weekend, BGSU competitors combined for an overall record of 21-7, including an 11-6 singles record and a stellar 10-1 doubles mark. Falcon players went 2-1 in singles and 7-1 in doubles on Saturday.
Saturday's play began at Keefe Courts on the BGSU campus, as well as at Bowling Green High School. The doubles rounds were completed, and singles play was underway when rain moved into the Bowling Green area. The tournament was moved to Shadow Valley Tennis and Fitness in Maumee, Ohio, where the main-draw singles matches were completed.
Due to time constraints and a smaller amount of courts at the indoor facility than at the two outdoor venues, back-draw matches that were underway were abandoned. Additionally, any back-draw matches that had not begun were cancelled.
At the top flight, Reuland split a pair of sets with Xavier's Alexandra Brinker, winning the opening set by a 6-2 result, but seeing Brinker bounce back with a 6-3 win in the second set. In the third-set super tiebreaker, Reuland picked up a 10-5 win to capture the flight championship.
Chiricosta, for the third match in a row on the weekend, won in straight sets, topping Cincinnati's Ashleigh Witte en route to her second-flight title.
BG senior Katie Grubb also had advanced to a championship match after picking up a pair of singles wins on Friday, but she was defeated in Saturday's final by IPFW's Mila Shustova.
Grubb fell just short in her bid for a third consecutive singles title at the BGSU Invitational. She has an overall record of 8-1 in singles play at the invite over the last three Septembers.
In doubles action, Chiricosta and Reuland rolled along to the championship at the number-one flight. They lost a combined five games in two Saturday matches, downing an IPFW duo in the semifinals, then topping a Cincinnati tandem by an 8-1 result in the final.
Reuland now has a perfect 18-0 record in the BGSU Invitational in her career, with three singles and three doubles titles in as many years. She teamed with Jessica Easdale for doubles crowns in each of her first two seasons.
Chiricosta is now 16-2 in the BGSU Invitational in her career. She won a doubles title as a freshman, then captured the top-flight singles title as a sophomore before winning both singles and doubles championships in 2012.
At the second flight, Grubb and fellow senior Maddy Eccleston were placed in the back draw after Eccleston missed Friday's play due to illness. The BG seniors posted a pair of wins on Friday morning, downing teams from Xavier and Duquesne.
The third flight saw the team of senior Jade Johnson and freshman Drew Fillis pick up a convincing 8-2 win over the Miami team of Rajkovic/Costea in the semifinal round, before losing a narrow 8-6 decision to Xavier's Westling/Oosterbaan team in the championship.
Brozovich and Hill won two Saturday matches to take the fourth-flight title. For Hill, it marked her second doubles title in her three years as a Falcon.
The Falcons are now idle from competition for several weeks. BGSU's next action sees the team make a short trip north to participate in Toledo's Rocket Invitational on Oct. 12-13.
