QUICK HITS
• The Falcons are coming off one of the program's top performances in recent memory ... BGSU posted a 65-40 win over nationally-ranked Dayton on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 30) at the Stroh Center ... UD entered the game ranked 14th in the country in the USA Today Sports Top 25 poll and 15th in the Associated Press poll.
• The Falcons have a ratings percentage index (RPI) of 33, according to the RealTimeRPI.com web site (as of Wednesday evening, Jan. 2) ... that site also listed BGSU's strength of schedule as the 51st-most difficult in the nation.
• BGSU now has an all-time record of 5-31 against nationally-ranked teams ... the Falcons have a 4-12 mark in such games since Jennifer Roos arrived in Northwest Ohio ... BG is now 3-4 in home games vs. nationally-ranked foes over the years, including 1-1 at the Stroh Center.
• Redshirt junior Alexis Rogers had a stellar game vs. the Flyers on Sunday afternoon, leading all players with 20 points, 10 rebounds and six steals ... it marked her second-straight game with a double-double.
• For her efforts, Rogers was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and the fifth time in her BGSU career ... additionally, Rogers received league P-O-W honors from the College Sports Madness web site, earning that honor for her third time as a Falcon.
• Senior Chrissy Steffen reached a career milestone in the win over the Flyers ... with a layup early in the second half, Steffen became the 25th player in BGSU history to reach the 1,000-point plateau for her career ... the Carmel, Ind., native now has 1,007 career points, ranking 24th on the school scoring list.
• Steffen had 16 points and seven rebounds in the victory, while junior point guard Jillian Halfhill scored 15 points vs. Dayton ... the 5-foot-6 Halfhill had nine rebounds in the win as BGSU held a 43-39 advantage on the glass.
• BGSU has won six consecutive games, and the Falcons were a perfect 6-0 in the month of December ... BG's last undefeated calendar month was January of 2012, when the Brown and Orange went a perfect 8-0 ... the Falcons capped that month with a win at Central Michigan in overtime (Jan. 28), with Jennifer Roos serving as interim head coach.
• The Dayton game began a season-long five-game homestand for the Falcons ... following Friday's UCF game, BGSU will open the MAC schedule with three games – all at the Stroh Center – during a seven-day span ... Kent State (Jan. 10), Toledo (Jan. 13) and Ball State (Jan. 16) all will come to town during that time ... BG's next road game is Jan. 20 at Ohio.
• The Falcons outscored Dayton, 37-15, in the second half of Sunday's game ... UD entered the game averaging 82.6 points per game, but BGSU held the Flyers more than 42 points under that average ... additionally, all five of Dayton's starters came into Sunday's action averaging at least 9.8 ppg, but no Flyer scored more than eight points vs. BGSU.
• Sunday's game marked a 56-point reversal from the teams' previous meeting ... in the 2011-12 season opener, host Dayton posted a 69-38 victory over the Falcons, BGSU's most lopsided loss in seven seasons.
• Last year's Dayton game marked Rogers' BGSU debut ... she had just two points and three rebounds in 12 minutes at UD Arena, with four fouls and four turnovers ... on Sunday, as mentioned, she led all players with 20 points, 10 boards and six steals.
• BGSU has held four of the last six opponents to under 50 points, and the Falcons have forced two of the last four foes to shoot less than 30 percent from the field for the game.
• The Falcons had not held an opponent to four or fewer field goals made in a half since December 1, 2007 ... in December of 2012, however, BGSU turned that trick three times in the six games ... Colorado State (first half), Northwestern (first half) and Dayton (second half) each made only four field goals in a 20-minute span.
• UD's 16.0 percent field-goal rate in the second half of Sunday's game was the lowest for a BG opponent since the Cornell game on the aforementioned date of Dec. 1, 2007 ... Cornell shot just 3-for-22 (13.6%) in the second half of that game.
• Dayton's 25.5% field-goal percentage for the game was the lowest by a BGSU opponent since March 12, 2011, when Eastern Michigan shot 24.6% in a loss to the Falcons in the MAC Tournament's championship game.
• BGSU has won six consecutive games, and the Falcons have outscored the opponents by 17.2 points per game during that time ... five of the six wins have come by double digits, with four wins by 20 points or more during that span.
• The lone single-digit margin in those six December games came at Massachusetts, a 64-61 BGSU win on Dec. 19 ... that victory enabled BGSU to reach a program – and conference – milestone ... the Falcons are the first Mid-American Conference school with 700 overall wins ... BG will enter the UCF game with an all-time record of 701-380, good for a winning percentage of 64.8% ... the Falcons have the most wins (obviously) and highest winning pct. of any MAC program.
• Rogers tied her career high for free throws made in the UMass game, going 8-for-9 at the stripe, including a perfect 4-for-4 in the final 28.5 seconds ... then, she set a new career mark with 11 free throws made in the win over Dayton.
• Rogers has scored 83 points over the last four games, with three games of 20 or more points in that stretch ... after missing the season opener vs. Madonna, she scored 43 points over the next seven games (5.9 ppg) ... she is averaging 20.8 ppg, along with 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game, in the last four contests.
• Steffen has averaged 17.3 points and 5.5 boards per game over the last four games ... she is shooting 54.3% from the field (25-of-46) and 45.4% from three-point range (10-for-22) in that time.
• Halfhill has averaged an impressive 7.3 rebounds per game during the Falcons' six-game winning streak ... she entered the month of December with a career high of six rebounds per game, but obliterated that total with 13 boards against Colorado State ... she has had three more games of seven or more rebounds during the last month.
• BGSU has never met UCF in women's basketball, but the Falcons have played no fewer than five games in the Knights' home arena ... BG has participated in tournaments hosted by UCF on two occasions, playing three games in the UCF Turkey Shootout from Nov. 28-30, 1997, and two contests at the Knights' tournament on Nov. 17-18, 2006 ... the Falcons went 4-1 in those games.
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS
BGSU has a chance to extend the school and MAC records for non-conference success ... a win over UCF would give the Falcons 10 victories, and would mark BG's seventh consecutive year with a double-digit win total in non-league play ... last season, the Falcons finished the non-conference schedule with 10 wins, after BG won a total of 12 games during the non-league schedule two years ago ... that 2010-11 BGSU club broke the school – as well as the MAC – record for non-conference wins in a season ... the Falcons had never posted a double-digit non-league win total prior to '06-07 before beginning the current streak ... BG's current six-season streak is a MAC record by far (by five seasons, to be exact).
NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS II
The Falcons, as mentioned, have posted a double-digit win total in non-conference play in six consecutive seasons, a MAC record ... no other MAC team has ever had back-to-back seasons with double-digit non-league victory totals ... in fact, no other MAC program has had more than two total years, consecutive or non-consecutive, in league history ... the complete list ...
