October 25, 2013 | Football
Augusta, Ga. – Bowling Green State University senior Brian Schmiedebusch has been named a candidate for the 2013 Ray Guy Award, given annually to the nation's top collegiate punter. Schmiedebusch was a semifinalist for the award in 2011.
A two-time All-MAC performer, Schmiedebusch struggled early in 2013 but has come on strong over the past month. He has averaged 43.5 yards on 11 punts over the past three games with two that have traveled at least 50 yards. Five of those 11 punts have landed inside the 20, including three inside the 5-yard line. On the season, Schmiedebusch is averaging 40.9 yards per punt with a long of 56 yards. He has dropped 10 of 25 punts inside the 20.
Ten semifinalists for the 2013 Ray Guy Award will be announced on Nov. 8 and a national body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, coaches, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote for the top three finalists, who will be identified on Nov. 25. The voting body will then cast ballots to select the winner.
