Falcons Finish Fall Season In Fourth At Quail Valley

VERO BEACH, FL –The Bowling Green State University men's golf team finished in fourth place at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 29). The Falcons shot a final round of 298 (+10), giving them a 54-hole total of 878 (276-304-298). Louisiana-Monroe won the tournament posting an impressive 17-under-par 847.
Head coach Kevin Farrell showcased the same lineup with Joe Cooper, Chris Melvin, Jose Narro, Brett Rinker and Ryan Triller in a field that featured 47 players.
Rinker, who shot an opening round 68 yesterday, shot a final round 75 (+3). Starting on the first hole, Rinker made nine consecutive pars before making a bogey on the par-4 15th. However, the right hander was able to recover with a birdie on the 18th hole to card a 54-hole total of 216. Rinker placed in sixth overall with his even-par 54-hole total.
Fellow classmate Melvin, who also fired a first round 68, started his final round on the third hole. Melvin opened with five consecutive pars before making a birdie on the par-3 eighth. After firing a 3-over 39 on the back nine, Melvin made the turn with three holes remaining. The right hander made two consecutive birdies on the first and second to card a front nine total of 1-under-par 35. For the tournament, Melvin carded a 220 (+4), which placed him in a tie for 15th position.
Narro, who was the second freshman competing for the Falcons, shot a final round 77 (40-37). On the day, Narro was able to make 11 pars and two birdies, helping him place tied for 21st overall.
Juniors Triller and Cooper also competed for the Orange and Brown in the final round at the Quail Valley Golf Club. Triller carded a final round of 74, improving by one shot over his final 18 holes. Triller finished the week with an 8-over-par 224 (75-75-74) to finish tied for 25th position.
Meanwhile, Cooper finished his week with a final round of 75 (+3), giving him a 54-hole total of 9-over-par 225 (72-78-75).
The tournament was the final event for Bowling Green for the 2013 fall season.
