Strong Front Nine Places Falcons In Fifth At Cabo

Bowling Green shot 7-under on the front nine on the final day, helping them place fifth overall at Cabo del Sol Intercollegiate.
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University men's golf team finished fifth at the Cabo del Sol Intercollegiate tournament on Wednesday (Oct. 8), with a 54-hole score of 890. The Falcons had a strong start on the final day of competition, shooting 7-under as a team over the first nine holes, helping them finish only eight strokes behind the winner.
Coach Kevin Farrell's lineup of Josh Bialecki, Chris Melvin, Jose Narro, Brett Rinker and Ryan Triller stayed consistent throughout the day, as each Falcon shot in the mid-70's.
Narro, who was third individually after 36 holes, carded a final round of 74, giving him a 54-hole total of 219 (74-71-74). The 3-over total gave Narro the best score for the Falcons in a field that featured 11 teams.Â
Melvin, who is one of two captains on the team, finished his 54-hole tournament with a 1-over 73, giving him a three day total of 222 (78-71-73). Melvin improved by at least five strokes or better in each of his final two rounds.Â
The other freshman competing in the field, Rinker, had consistent ball-striking all week, carding a 54-hole total of 224 (+8). Rinker shot a final round of 3-over 75 after shooting 76 and 73 over the first two rounds.Â
Bowling Green also had their other captain and senior competing in the field. After shooting scores of 77 (+5) and 78 (+6) over the first two rounds, Bialecki had the biggest improvement on the final 18 holes for the Falcons. Bialecki came into the clubhouse with a 1-over 73, his best score of the event.Â
Improvement seemed to be a theme for the Orange and Brown all week, as junior Triller also found success over his final 18 holes. After shooting an 81 (+9) in his second round, Triller improved by six strokes, carding him a 3-over 75. For the tournament, Triller totaled a 231 (75-81-75) at the Ocean Course.Â
Bowling Green will be back on the course in two weeks, as the Falcons will travel to Norfolf, VA., to play in the ODU/OBX Tournament on Oct. 20-22. The Orange and Brown will then head Louisiana to wrap-up their fall season at the Quail Valley Invitational on Oct. 28-29.Â
