LAST TIME THEY MET
* Date: Dec. 21, 2012
* Location: Tampa, Fla. (USF Sun Dome)
* Score: South Florida won, 87-84 (3ot)
* Notes: The triple overtime contest saw the lights go out, literally, for a 20-minute delay in the first overtime period.
 * The Falcons battled back from seven points down in the final minute of regulation to force overtime.
 * BGSU came back from four points down with 21 seconds left to in the first overtime after the 20-minute delay and saw Richaun Holmes swat away a last chance shot by Anthony Collins to send the game to a second overtime period.
 * BGSU's Jordan Crawford made a lay-up with 32 seconds in the second overtime to put the Falcons in front at 78-75, however, South Florida's Victor Rudd hit a three-pointer just four seconds later to tie the game at 78-78 and send it to a third overtime.
* Martino Brock made a lay-up with 27 seconds left to make it 84-82, but Anthony Henderson got behind a pressing defense and had a dunk attempt with 18 seconds left. His chance was swatted away and USF quickly went the other way, getting a Rudd basket and a foul. He made the free-throw with 13 seconds left to put the Bulls on top 85-84. With one last chance, Calhoun attempted a long three-pointer that could not find the bottom of the net and USF made two free-throws to close it out.
THE SERIES
South Florida leads the overall series between these two teams 2-0. Last time out, the Bulls escaped with an 87-84 triple overtime win over the Falcons at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Fla. The only other meeting between these two teams on the hardwood was back in 1978 where South Florida defeated BGSU 88-79 in Tampa on January 2nd.
LAST GAME: FALCONS ROUT EARLHAM IN SEASON OPENER
BGSU had six players score in double figures and set a new program record with 22 steals to blow past Earlham, 102-43 in the season opener last Saturday. The Falcons dished out 29 assists as a team and outscored Earlham 58-14 in points in the paint and 30-0 in points off turnovers.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE ?
South Florida is the first and only BGSU opponent this season that is a member of the newly formed American Athletic Conference. The new League also includes Louisville, Connecticut, Memphis, Cincinnati, Temple, SMU, Houston, UCF and Rutgers.
BGSU - SOUTH FLORIDA FLINT, MICHIGAN CONNECTION
BG freshman JD Tisdale and South Florida sophomore Javontae Hawkins are both from Flint, Michigan. Tisdale played at both Flint Northern and Swartz Creek High School, while Hawkins suited up for the Flint Powers Catholic High School before attending Huntington Prep (W.Va.).
WE'LL TAKE THAT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH
The Falcons set a new school record for thefts as a team in a single game in its season opener versus Earlham, as BGSU recorded 22 steals overall for the game. BGSU's 22 steals were off of only 25 Earlham turnovers for the game. Guards Jehvon Clarke and JD Tisdale each led the way with six steals apiece, both career highs.
CLARKE'S FIRST START: ONE TO REMEMBER
Junior guard Jehvon Clarke's first career intercollegiate start in the season opener versus Earlham was one to remember as he set new career marks in points (17), assists (8) and steals (6).
HOLMES' HOUSE
Junior forward Richaun Holmes registered four blocks in the season opening win over Earlham. Last season, Holmes set a new BGSU single-season record with 73 blocks on the season overall.
TISDALE'S DEBUT
Freshman guard JD Tisdale had a strong showing in his intercollegiate debut, as the newcomer totaled nine points, six steals and three assists. His six steals was tied with fellow teammate Jehvon Clarke for the game-high.
COACH ORR'S COLLEGIATE NUMBERS
Head Coach Louis Orr reached a number of career milestones in the season opening contest versus Earlham, as he recorded his 500th career win at the collegiate level as player, assistant coach and head coach. The 2013-14 season opener was also his 800th career game as a participant in some capacity at the collegiate level.
MORE ON ORR
Coach Louis Orr currently has amassed 190 career wins as a head coach at his three posts (Bowling Green, Seton Hall and Siena) and is only 10 wins shy of 200 career victories.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
In the last two years, the Stroh Center has proven to be a difficult place for opponents to play. The Falcons went 23-9 at home over the last two years, including posting a 3-0 mark at home in 2011-12 against teams that eventually went to the NCAA Tournament. Overall, the Falcons are 24-9 in the Stroh Center, which comes out to a .727 winning percentage and is higher than the program's .709 winning percentage in Anderson Arena, the home for the Falcons from 1960-2011.
HOME OPENER = WIN
With BGSU's 102-49 win over Earlham in its home opener to start the 2013-14 season, the Falcons extended its consecutive home openers winning streak to 22 straight games. The Falcons are 87-12 all-time in home openers.
THAT 70'S STROH
Bowling Green is 12-0 all-time when scoring at least 70 points in the Stroh Center. The Falcons reached 70 points six times last season and dropped 70 points or more five times in 2011-12.
DOUBLE-DIGIT HOME WINS
BGSU has won at least 10 home games in each of the past three seasons. This year, the Falcons are 1-0 at home and have a total of 15 home contests this season.
PAINT PRESENCE
Head Coach Louis Orr's philosophy is always to play inside-out and the Falcons have done that well during his tenure. Over his last four-plus seasons, BGSU has scored 20 or more points in the paint in 113-of-134 games. Bowling Green has scored a high of 58 points in the paint twice during that span, including 58 points in the season opener versus Earlham.
FRESH FACES
BGSU head coach Louis Orr has four new players on the 2013-14 squad. JD Tisdale (Flint, Mich./Swartz Creek High School), Zack Denny (Germantown, Ohio/Valley View High School), and Garrett Mayleben (Milford, Ohio/Milford High School) will all join transfer Josh Gomez (Brooklyn, N.Y./Rice High School/Iona) among this year's incoming class.
FALCONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY
Bowling Green will play a minimum of two games this year on Time Warner Cable Sports, per the Mid-American Conference regional television package, and another as an ESPN3 exclusive broadcast. The Falcons will host South Florida on Nov. 15 exclusively on ESPN3. BGSU will also play at Western Michigan on Jan. 19 and then at home against Akron on Feb. 9 on TWC Sports.
MEDIA PICKS BOWLING GREEN SIXTH IN PRESEASON POLL
After graduating their top-two scorers, as well as three of its five starters, Bowling Green was selected to finish sixth in the Mid-American Conference East Division by vote of the league's MAC News Media. Akron was selected to win the East, followed by Buffalo, Ohio, Kent State, and Miami.
