Richaun Holmes Tabbed MAC East Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green State University junior Richaun Holmes was tabbed the MAC East Division Men's Basketball Player of the Week the league office announced today.

Holmes had back-to-back career-scoring games and recorded a season-high five blocks in two straight contests to help lead the Falcons to a 1-1 record last week.

In a win over Western Kentucky on Monday night, Holmes poured in a career-high 18 points, hauled in seven rebounds and swatted away a season-high five blocked shots in the contest, one shy of his career-high.

The five blocks was the most for a single BGSU player since Holmes himself totaled five swats versus Central Michigan on Jan. 9, 2013.

The 6-8 forward followed that up with a career-high 26 points as the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team pushed the Xavier Musketeers to the limit in an 85-73 overtime loss on Saturday afternoon. Along with his career-high 26 points, Holmes hauled in nine rebounds and registered five blocked shots in a career-high 39 minutes of play. Holmes almost single-handedly kept the Falcons in the game throughout the contest, as he poured in 11 points in the second half, including scoring four straight points over a one minute and 30 second span late in the second half to give BGSU a 67-66 lead with just over a minute to play in the game. Holmes also poured in four of Bowling Green's five points in the overtime period.

Holmes' 10 blocks this week increases his total to 21 on the season and puts him on pace to break his own school record of 73 blocks in a single season set just last year.

Overall, Holmes averaged 22 points, eight rebounds, one steal and five blocks per game last week.

The weekly conference award is the first this season for Holmes.
