Javontae Campbell Named Academic All-MAC

Campbell One Of 16 Recipients For Men’s Basketball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced Monday afternoon (April 6) this year's Academic All-MAC team for men's basketball. Bowling Green senior guard Javontae Campbell was one of 16 players across the conference named to the list. Bowling Green has now had at least one Academic All-MAC player in five of the last six seasons. To qualify for the Academic All-MAC Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests scheduled or completed in the particular sport. First-year students and any transfer in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.Â
The Academic All-MAC honor adds to a long list of honors for Campbell this year, including both academic and athletic achievements. Campbell has now been named Academic All-MAC and Academic All-District. He's also eligible for Academic All-America consideration with the team being announced on April 14. As for athletically, Campbell was named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year, All-MAC First Team, All-MAC Defensive Team and NABC All-District. The list rounds out for Campbell with consideration for the Lefty Driesell Award and the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Late-Season Team.Â
Starting all 32 games for the Falcons, Javontae Campbell put together a historic campaign. Campbell broke the program's single-season steals record with 97, finishing third all-time in the Mid-American Conference and leading the nation for the season. Campbell averaged a team-leading 18.7 points per game, including a MAC-leading 21.4 points per game against MAC opponents. In addition to his scoring outputs, Campbell shot 50.0-percent from the field for the season, ranking ninth in the MAC. He rounded out his strong stat line with 163 assists, leading the team while averaging 6.0 assists per game against MAC opponents to rank third in the conference.Â
