MAC TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
SATURDAY RECAP: Falcons advance to Cleveland with 76-35 dismantling of KSU
B!G WIN
The Falcons posted a 76-35 win over Kent State on Saturday (March 9), in MAC Tournament first-round action at the Stroh Center ... a few notes about the victory ...
• The 41-point margin of victory was BG's largest ever in a MAC Tournament game, and was tied for the fourth-largest margin in league tournament history ... the Falcons' largest previous MAC Tournament win came by 39 points, a 90-51 triumph against Toledo in the championship game of the 1989 tourney.
• Kent State's 35 points represented the fewest ever allowed by the Falcons in a MAC Tournament game, and was tied for the MAC Tournament record ... Northern Illinois held Central Michigan to 35 points in the first round of the 2001 tourney.
• Only five times in MAC Tournament history has a team been held to fewer than 40 points in a game ... BGSU has turned the trick on three occasions, while the rest of the conference has combined to do so just twice.
HOLDING THEM UNDER 40, MAC TOURNAMENT EDITION
(all games in MAC Tournament history in which a team has been held under 40 points)
35 – Bowling Green 76, Kent State 35 – 2013 first round
35 – Northern Illinois 57, Central Michigan 35 – 2001 first round
38 – Toledo 58, Northern Illinois 38 – 2001 semifinal
39 – Bowling Green 75, Ball State 39 – 1993 quarterfinal
39 – Bowling Green 64, Kent State 39 – 2006 championship game
• BGSU's 28-point halftime lead on Saturday was tied for the second-largest in league tournament history ... the record is 29, as Eastern Michigan held a 46-17 lead over Buffalo at the half in a 2005 MAC Tournament game.
• Kent State's totals of 16 points in the first half and 19 points in the second period each were among the lowest in league tournament history ... the Flashes had the eighth-lowest first-half point total in all tourney games, and KSU's second-half point total was tied for the fifth-lowest on that list.
THE FALCONS IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT
BGSU enters Wednesday's WMU game with a record of 43-17 in the MAC Tournament ... the Falcons have won 11 MAC Tournament titles, the most of any conference institution, and BGSU has the highest winning percentage (71.7%) of any MAC team in league tourney games ... BG's conference tournament win total places the Falcons second among MAC teams ... more information regarding BG's MAC Tournament history can be found on pages 35-36 of the PDF version of these notes.
SENIORS GET 100TH WIN
BGSU's senior class, honored in ceremonies prior to the final home regular-season game (vs. Ohio on March 3), got one more chance to play on the Stroh Center court, and joined an elite group ... that quartet – Simone Eli, Danielle Havel, Allison Papenfuss and Chrissy Steffen – picked up the 100th win of their Falcon tenures in the Kent State game ... the Falcons are now 100-28 since those four players came to BG.
SENIOR PRIDE
The Falcons' seniors have joined a relatively exclusive – and very impressive – group ... that quartet – Simone Eli, Danielle Havel, Allison Papenfuss and Chrissy Steffen – became the eighth class in school history, and the seventh in a row, to be a part of at least 100 career wins at BG ... heading into the WMU game, the Falcons have a record of 100-28 since they arrived on campus in the fall of 2009 (Havel sat out the 2009-10 season as a transfer from DePaul) ... the school mark is held by the one-woman class of Lindsey Goldsberry, who ended her career with 114 wins, the most by any player (male or female) in MAC basketball history.

BGSU AT THE Q
The Falcons enter this year's MAC Tournament with an all-time record of 20-5 at Quicken Loans (formerly Gund) Arena ... a few more pieces of information about BGSU and "The Q" ...
• In their first-ever appearance, the Falcons, seeded ninth, led top-seeded Toledo at halftime before losing in the quarterfinals of the 2001 tourney ... that was BGSU's final game before the Curt Miller (and Jennifer Roos) Era began.
• Nine years ago, the Brown and Orange picked up a pair of one-point wins at then-Gund Arena, topping Western Michigan and Miami on buzzer-beating jumpers by Lindsay Austin ... that '04 team fell to Eastern Michigan in the championship game, and BG then proceeded to win 10-straight games at "The Gund"/"The Q" ... that streak included MAC Tournament titles in 2005, '06 and '07.
• The Falcons' 10-game winning streak also included a quarterfinal-round win over Kent State in 2008 ... the streak came to an end with a double-overtime loss to Ohio in the semifinal round that season ... four years ago, BGSU downed Central Michigan and UT to advance to the title game, before falling to Ball State, 55-51, in the final.
• Following that loss to BSU in 2009, BG won six-striaght games at "The Q" ... the 2010 tourney saw the Falcons defeat Miami, Akron and UT ... in 2011, BGSU downed Ohio, CMU and EMU en route to a fifth MAC Tournament title in seven seasons ... but, the top-seeded Falcons lost their first tourney game last season, falling by a 69-66 count to Central Michigan in the semifinals after earning a 'triple-bye'.
• The Falcons have a record of 20-4 at the facility since Roos arrived at BGSU ... Wednesday's WMU game will mark her first game at "The Q" as a head coach.
FALCONS IN THE SECOND ROUND // FALCONS AT NEUTRAL SITES
• Technically, Wednesday's WMU game will be BGSU's first-ever MAC Tournament second-round game ... The Falcons now have an all-time record of 4-2 in MAC Tournament first-round games ... BGSU is 15-6 in quarterfinal-round games, 13-7 in semifinal contests and 11-2 in championship-game appearances.
• BGSU is now a perfect 10-0 in MAC Tournament home games, and Saturday marked the Falcons' first league tourney game at the Stroh Center ... BG is 2-5 in road games and 31-12 in neutral-site contests in the league tourney over the years.
FALCONS VS. WESTERN MICHIGAN IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT
BGSU has met Western Michigan five times in MAC Tournament action, and the Falcons have a 3-2 record in those games ... BG has won two-straight MAC Tournament games vs. the Broncos since WMU's last win, in the 2000 tourney ... three prior matches have taken place at neutral sites, with the Falcons going 2-1 in those games ... the last meeting saw the Brown and Orange win, 63-62, in the 2004 quarterfinals at Gund (now Quicken Loans) Arena ... Lindsay Austin hit a jumper at the buzzer to give BG the win ... the first-ever meeting was a 70-53 BG win in the 1988 championship game in Toledo ... the Broncos posted a 67-64 home win in the 1994 quarterfinals, and WMU won a lopsided 87-63 decision at Cleveland's Public Hall in the 2000 quarterfinal round ... the following season saw the Falcons pick up a 78-75 first-round win on the road.
QUICK HITS
• The Falcons, as mentioned, are coming off a 76-35 dismantling of Kent State Saturday afternoon (March 9), in the first round of the MAC Tournament ... BGSU has won four-straight games, and the Falcons are 8-2 since the start of February.
• Senior Allison Papenfuss and redshirt junior Alexis Rogers each scored 13 points to tie for game scoring honors ... Rogers had those 13 points in just 12 minutes, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line.
• Papenfuss had the first double-double of her career, with a career-high 10 rebounds ... she tied her career bests for points scored and field goals made (six), and set new career highs in rebounds as well as field goals attempted (12).
• As a team, BG posted a season-high 51 rebounds, 20 more than KSU's total.
• Junior Jillian Halfhill had a game's worth of statistics in just half a game ... Halfhill had 10 points along with six rebounds and game-high totals of four assists and three steals in just 20 minutes vs. the Golden Flashes ... she had the highest minutes-played total among BG's five starters on Saturday.
• The Falcons won two games vs. Kent State at the Stroh Center this season, scoring a combined total of 145 points to the Flashes' 68 ... in each game, BGSU had more points at halftime than KSU scored in the entire contest ... the Falcons led, 35-14, at the intermission en route to a 69-33 win on Jan. 10 ... on Saturday, BG had a 44-16 halftime advantage.
• In both games at the Stroh, the BGSU bench outscored both the Falcon starters and the entire Kent State club ... the Falcons' reserves scored a season-high 40 points in the first KSU meeting, and matched that total on Saturday ... the BG starters combined for 29 points on Jan. 10 and 36 on Saturday afternoon.
• The Falcons held KSU to just 24.5% shooting in Saturday's game ... BGSU's defense limited the Falcons to only 40 field goals in 153 attempts (26.1%) and an average of 37.0 points per game in the teams' three meetings this season.
• BGSU has held the last four opponents (Ohio, Buffalo and KSU twice) to an average of just 43.3 points per game and a 29.5% field-goal percentage.
• On the season, BGSU has held the opponent to fewer than 50 points on 13 occasions, a new school record ... the original record was set by the 1973-74 team, while the '74-75 club kept 11 opponents under the 50-point plateau ... the 2006-07 BG team held nine opponents to fewer than 50 points, en route to an appearance in the Sweet Sixteen.
• In 32 games at the Stroh Center, the Falcons have allowed the opponent to reach 70 points just twice ... Akron (61 points in a BG win on Feb. 20) is the only MAC foe to surpass the 60-point mark against the Brown and Orange in 17 games in the building ... BG has allowed an average of 52.6 ppg in all games at the Stroh, and just 50.5 ppg against MAC opponents.
• This year's senior class – Papenfuss, Chrissy Steffen, Simone Eli and Danielle Havel – has helped the Falcons to an overall record of 100-28 and a MAC mark of 52-12 since they arrived at BG ... that is an average of 25 overall wins and 13 MAC victories per season.
• In 2012-13, the Falcons posted a winning mark in MAC play for the 10th consecutive year, a new school record.
• The following few notes illustrate how successful BGSU has been over the last decade ... the Falcons finished with a record of 11-5 in MAC play ... BG has not had more than five losses in conference action since the 2002-03 campaign.
• In fact, BGSU has 124 wins and just 20 losses in MAC games over the last nine years ... no other conference school has fewer than 53 MAC losses in that time.
• The Falcons' 15-point loss to Miami on Feb. 23 was the team's largest margin of defeat this season ... believe it or not, it also was BGSU's most lopsided loss to a MAC team in over five years, since a 68-47 setback at Ball State on Jan. 26, 2008.
• Miami became the first team to defeat BGSU twice in the same season since Eastern Michigan in the 2004-05 campaign ... the Eagles won both regular-season meetings that year, but the Falcons gained a measure of revenge in the MAC Tournament, earning a 77-57 win in the semifinal round en route to the first of three consecutive conference tourney championships.
• Steffen currently has a total of 1,201 career points as a Falcon, ranking 19th on the school's scoring list ... her next target is 18th-place Jacki Raterman, who scored 1,213 points at BGSU from 1995-99.
• Steffen is fourth in school history in three-point field goals made, having hit 178 long-distance shots in her career ... Steffen moved past Sara Puthoff on that list in the Ohio game.

1 -- Lauren Prochaska (2007-11) -- 310

• The Falcons have a record of 12-4 at the Stroh Center this year to date ... BG has posted a double-digit home win total in each of the last eight seasons.
• The Falcons have a record of 19-2 when scoring 60 or more points this year ... BGSU is 2-7 when the offense is held under the 60-point plateau, but the Falcons have won the last two such games, vs. Buffalo (Feb. 28) and KSU (March 6).
• BGSU's defense has allowed just 50.9 points per game in 17 contests vs. MAC opponents this season to date.
• BGSU finished the regular season with a record of 5-3 in MAC road games ... 2012-13 marks the 10th consecutive season in which the Falcons have had a winning record in MAC away games ... BG had gone 6-2 or better on the road in each of nine-straight seasons since a 1-7 conference mark away from home in 2002-03.
• A total of 11 Falcons – every player who has seen action in more than two games this season – have scored in double figures at least once ... nine of those 11 players have hit double digits more than once ... and, no fewer than 10 different players have led BGSU in scoring in at least one game this season.
A QUICK LOOK AT WESTERN MICHIGAN

THE SERIES
The Falcons lead Western Michigan, 33-23, in the all-time series between the teams, but the Broncos won this year's regular-season meeting ... Corie Buchanan hit a shot in the lane with just 4.6 seconds to go, lifting Western to a 55-54 win in Kalamazoo (Feb. 10, 2013) ... last season, Alexis Rogers had a double-double, with 22 points and 13 rebounds as the Falcons won a 67-56 decision at the Stroh Center (Feb. 4, 2012) ...
