March 20, 2013 | Softball
DAYTON, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University softball team (10-7) will head to Dayton, Ohio for the second time in two weeks this Friday, as the Falcons get set to battle the Wright State Raiders in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. Bowling Green holds a 9-2 all-time record against Wright State, including a 1-2 record under head coach Shannon Salsburg. The teams' last meeting came in the first contest of the 2012 season at the Tiger Invitational Tournament, a 13-1 win for the Falcons.
Sophomore Paris Imholz picked up her first collegiate win against the Raiders last season, allowing just three hits and striking out three in 5.0 innings of play. The Falcons' 13-1 win over Wright State also saw Chloe Giordano's first career hit (double) and Shelby Fink's first career run scored.
MAC Players Of The Week
After a sweep of Dayton this past weekend, the Mid-American Conference honored two Falcons with player and pitcher of the week awards. Senior Hannah Fulk led the Falcons with a .600 batting average over the weekend, helping Bowling Green earn back-to-back wins against Dayton. Fulk also led the Falcons with three runs scored and a 1.200 slugging percentage. Fulk added a home run and two RBI, while also drawing three walks.
Sophomore Paris Imholz continues to dominate on the mound for Bowling Green, helping the Falcons earn a sweep over Dayton this past weekend. Imholz pitched her fourth complete game of the season in game one, earning her third complete game shutout of the season. Imholz held the Flyers scoreless on five hits, striking out five to improve her record to 7-1 on the season. Imholz came in and earned the save in game two, holding Dayton to two hits and zero runs in the final 1.2 innings.
New Record
Paris Imholz's save marked the ninth of her career, setting the Bowling Green all-time record. Imholz passed Vicki Miwa (1986-88) and Lisa Mountjoy (1992-1995) on the all-time list. Fellow sophomore Jamie Kertes ranks fifth all time, recording six saves over her career.
One Swing Away
Seniors Hannah Fulk and Paige Berger are each one home run away from moving up the Bowling Green all-time list. Berger currently sits at 31 homers, one shy of tying Hayley Wiemer's all-time record of 32. Fulk is also moving up the all-time list, thanks to a record 15 home runs last season. Fulk currently has 25 home runs, one away from tying Gina Rango (26) for third on the all-time list.
Keep On Walking
Hannah Fulk also broke the single-season walk record last year, earning 42 base-on-balls in 2012. Fulk ranks second on the team with nine walks this season, culminating in 100 walks over her career. Fulk is only the second Falcon to ever reach 100 walks in her career, trailing Hayley Wiemer's 121 career walks for second on the all-time list.
