Falcons Sweep Friday's Doubleheader At Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University softball team (12-7) swept Wright State Friday evening, beating the Raiders by a score of 2-0 and 2-1 to push the Falcons' winning streak to four games.
Senior Paige Berger led Bowling Green with two hits in game one, including a double and two runs scored. Sophomore Paris Imholz secured the win for the Falcons, allowing just three hits and striking out five in 6.0 innings of play. Sophomore Jamie Kertes earned her first save of the season, holding the Raiders scoreless in the final inning of play.
Bowling Green's first run of the contest came in the fifth inning, starting with a double from Berger down the right field line. After two quick outs, an error by Wright State allowed Berger to score from second, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead.
Berger scored her second run of the game in the top of the seventh, coming on a double steal to put the Falcons up by two. Kertes took care of the rest, shutting out the Raiders to give BG the 2-0 victory in game one.
Freshman Marisa Shook helped the Falcons earn the sweep with a strong offensive performance in game two, going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Berger also had a strong game, hitting her second double of the day. Kertes started the contest, giving up just three hits and striking out two in five innings, also earning a save after re-entering the game in the final frame. Imholz (9-1) picked up her second win of the day, allowing just one hit in 2.0 innings of relief.
The Falcons scored their first run of the game in the top of the fourth, coming on one hit. Senior Hannah Fulk started the frame with a walk, eventually moving to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Berger belted a double in the next at bat, bringing Fulk home for the 1-0 Falcon lead.
Wright State pulled even with the Falcons in the bottom of the fifth, setting the stage for Shook's game-winning home run in the top of the sixth. Shook's solo home run marked her second of the season, and gave Bowling Green the 2-1 win.
The Falcons put their four-game winning streak on the line against Michigan on Wednesday, March 27, taking on the Wolverines in Ann Arbor. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
