Falcons Lose On The Road To Michigan, 9-1

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University softball team lost to Michigan Wednesday evening, falling to the Wolverines by a score of 9-1 to push their overall record to 12-8.
Senior Paige Berger collected one of the Falcons' three hits, going 1-for-2 with a run scored. Sophomore Chloe Giordano and senior Adrienne Dick picked up the other two Bowling Green hits, going 1-for-2 and 1-for-1, respectively.
Sophomore Paris Imholz (9-2) was credited with the loss after giving up three earned runs on six hits in the first 1.2 innings. Fellow sophomore Jamie Kertes also saw action, giving up one earned run on four hits in 2.1 innings of work.
After a scoreless top of the first inning for Bowling Green, Michigan came out swinging, putting up six runs on four hits in the bottom of the frame. The Wolverines added on two more runs in the bottom of the second, crossing the plate twice on two hits to give Michigan the early 8-0 lead.
After a scoreless third inning for both teams, Bowling Green broke its run drought in the top of the fourth, earning one run off two hits in the frame. Berger started the play with a one-out single up the middle, eventually moving to second on a fielder's choice. In the following at bat, Dick singled to left field to bring Berger home for the only Bowling Green run of the evening.
Michigan responded with another run on four hits in the top of the fourth, putting the score at 9-1 in favor of the Wolverines. The Falcons were unable to manufacture any more runs in the top of the following frame, giving Michigan the eight run mercy-rule victory.
Bowling Green is back in action this weekend, opening Mid American Conference play with a doubleheader against Ball State on Friday. The Falcons finish up with games against Miami on Saturday and Sunday. The first pitch for Friday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
