BG Continues MAC Play With Games Against Buffalo And Kent State

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University softball team will continue its Mid-American Conference home stand this weekend, starting with a doubleheader against the University at Buffalo on Friday, April 12. The Falcons will finish out the weekend with a single game against Kent State on Saturday, and a single game against the Golden Flashes on Sunday. The Falcons lead the all-time series, 18-7, with the Bulls, including a record of 6-4 under head coach Shannon Salsburg. Bowling Green trails the all-time series with Kent State, 44-55-1, with a record of 4-9 under coach Salsburg.
Buffalo Last Season
Bowling Green earned a sweep of the Bulls on the road last season, defeating Buffalo, 3-1 and 8-4, over the two-game set. Hannah Fulk went 1-for-3 in their first meeting, recording a double and an RBI. Andrea Arney went 1-for-4, hitting her team best ninth home run of the season. Jamie Kertes picked up the win, recording four strikeouts while allowing just one earned run in 4.2 innings. Paris Imholz recorded the save, allowing just one hit in the final 2.2 innings of play.
The Falcons completed the sweep of Buffalo that Sunday afternoon, doubling up the Bulls, 8-4. Senior Melissa West led the way offensively for Bowling Green, going 2-for-2 with three RBI. Paris Imholz picked up the win, allowing three earned runs and five hits in 4.0 innings. Jamie Kertes recorded the save, holding the Bulls scoreless in the final three frames.
Kent State Last Season
Bowling Green split its doubleheader with Kent State with Kent State on the road last season, defeating the Golden Flashes, 4-2, in the first game, before dropping the second contest, 3-1.
Home runs from Andrea Arney and Hannah Fulk powered the Falcons offensively in the first contest, accounting for all of Bowling Green's runs. Arney went 2-for-4 on the day, recording three RBI. Fulk also went 2-for-4, including a double and an RBI. Jamie Kertes collected the win, giving up six hits and two runs in 6.1 innings of work.
Bowling Green dropped the second game of the doubleheader, 3-1, despite outhitting Kent State, 7-6. Kertes went 2-for-3 in the contest, while senior Rachel Proehl collected the lone Falcon RBI. Imholz was credited with the loss, giving up two earned runs and six hits with five strikeouts over six innings.

The Falcons swept Valparaiso Tuesday evening, defeating the Crusaders by a score of 6-3 in game one and 5-0 in game two. The out-of-conference sweep improved the Falcons' overall record to 20-12.
Senior Paige Berger led the Falcons in game one with three hits, belting three singles with a run scored and an RBI. Junior Katie Yoho collected three RBI, thanks to a three-run homer in a 1-for-4 performance. Sophomore Paris Imholz (13-4) earned the victory, holding Valparaiso to just two earned runs and five hits in 5.2 innings pitched. Fellow sophomore Jamie Kertes pitched the final 1.1 innings in relief, allowing just one hit for her fourth save of the season.
Bowling Green continued to cruise in game two, earning the 5-0 win for the sweep. Stratton led the Falcons with two hits, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Sophomore Emily McClelland also had a solid second game, going 1-for-2 with two RBI. Kertes (7-7) was credited with the win, striking out four Crusaders en route to a shutout win over the Crusaders.
